I hunted the Nootka, Port McNeil area 5 years ago . It was the absolute best bear hunting I have ever seen. Spot and stock hunt and i saw over 25 bears in 4 days. My first night out I got thier early so the guide and i went up a logging road to take a look. Right out of the gate i had a 6.5 to 7 footer at about 40 yards. We watched him for about 15 minutes before I passed beacuase i didn't want my hunt to end in 30 minutes. I ended taking a bear in 350lb range that squared an honest 6' 6''. i didn't see any color phase bears. Plan on spending some good money. Budget more then $5,000 for trip, license, tips.

Herm, I know a guide who lives in Port Alberni and guides for bears. He's a great guy and knows his stuff. His name is Bob Welsh and this is his phone number (250) 723-1009.

Dude,

I fish port alberni every year and there are a ton of bear out there.
I really dont think you need a guide, I too am looking into that, I would think all a guy needs is a good map of the area....but not sure about how we would go about attaining a tag and license...if you find some info shoot it to me, I will do the same.

Non-residents in BC must have a guide for any game larger than like a grouse. Black bears included.
