I am trying to decide if I there is a float rod that would do well as a spinner/spoon rod also. I am looking at 9-10 feet with a spinning rod. Any suggestions will help. I have heard that open face reels (spinning) are not good for spinner fishing. I will use it for steelhead and silvers and whatever else I can hold with it. I want something light but stout enough to hang in there with a hot fish. Any favorites out there?

I think that you will be hard pressed to find a 9-10 foot spinning float rod that you could use for throwing spinners. You might try Gloomis.com and look at there series of float rods and se if one of those fits your fancy!

If only with one rod these might work pretty good.

I know a guy that was using this rod last year throwing #4 blue fox spinners for steelhead and slivers on the Kalama. I sure like the look of it when he had a steelie on ......Ross

This Olympic Peninsula favorite is the most versatile rod of the series. Silvers and chum don't stand a chance against this moderate/fast action rod. It fishes optimal with 12# test and has plenty of backbone for that once in a lifetime steelhead.

My idea is to try to cut down the number of rods in the boat or to carry around. I don't know if I should expect a float rod to sling hardware as well, I just haven't fished them enough and I wanted to do some homework before buying. My wife and I fish together so I am looking at buying two of whatever I decide on. I am leaning towards the Loomis but I have heard good things about the fly rod blanks.

I use a 10'6" 8-17 lb line shimano convergence for spoons and floats. Thats with a levelwind though. Works wonders for me.

Bill Herzog designed a Lamiglas spoon rod that is 10 feet long. When asked at his three Rivers seminar which he prefred, his 10 foot rod or the 10 and 1/2 flaot rod i designed, he said he liked having that extra six inches. I doubt anyone knows more about fishing spoons than Bill.

I fish with a float at all times ,this includes spinner and spoon fishing,i have done most of my damage this year with brass coloradoes.
I find a lighter action rod 10.5 ft long to be perfect .Depending on your budget ,there are many good rods out there. This year ive been using a St. croix rod ,and its just the ticket ,and i like to horse em in quick and let them go fast .

My vote goes for a 1143 or 1084. Both are great rods for what your looking for.

Tight lines
