A co-worker has a 3 or 4 year-old Honda outboard, 5 hp, 4-stroke, long shaft they would like to get out of their garage. It wasn't used much, but spent some time on the stern of a small sailboat. I have a 16' Lund that has no kicker.

Could this be a good match?

I checked Boattrader, and found only new OBs listed at $1,399. She "thinks" they paid about $800 for it, which seems like a lot of inflation over four years, or a poor memory. Any idea what the fair market value is for this OB?

$5-600 is my uneducated, uninformed consumer guess.

Decent used kickers go for about $100 a horse. More ($150) for year old, less for those older than 10 years ($40-75) depending upon condition. $500 is a good bargain for you, $700 would still be fair.

I own a 2000 honda 8hp long shaft, paid 1795$ new,price has not inflated more than 100$.

If engine is in good running condition should be worth 700$.

Get it quick. It'll make a great trolling motor.
