Isn't this about the time to expect the herring to be running?

Any reports?

"Time Off", if you read this, please resond. I know you spend your days on the W'port dock.

While we're discussing jigging herring. Do the Herring show up in Ilwaco the same way they do at westport?

I've been keeping on top of Westport herring, or I should say lack of herring - I have caught exactly 2 in 3 trips and my contacts out there report 0 success. They may not come in this year at all, and all spawn up the Elk River instead, as they used to in past years, although they spawn until April 15, so it's not over yet. Real bummer with the price of bait \:\(

Last report I read on ifish is that they haven't come into Yaquina Bay either.

Smelt were late this year in the Cowlitz, so who knows.

Spawnout is right 10 to 14 days ago I seen what I would guess to be a herring ball in front of Brady's oysters below Elk river bridge, Lots of seals in it 50 to 100 and the seagulls were getting real fat. I tried jigging these balls last year from the seawall with no luck, I didn't want to take the new boat up that way in unchartered waters can get shallow up there want to break the Northriver in first before I ding her up. It's been three weeks since any reports have come my way of any herring in the marina, lots of small surf smelt. Water temp has risen to 50.5 if there coming should be now or maybe it is to late.

Was unable to confirm the report that herring were at the Elk River near Brady's Oysters. No major bird or mammal activity in the area, so my guess is that the herring have moved elsewhere, either upstream or whereever it is they may roam.

Try the Puget Sound, went out this afternoon around the low slack and got about 15 dozen between the two of us and three kids helping, thats an adventure, three kids, two rods with 6 small sharp hooks on each, and herring comming in fairly quick.
Back to the herring, the downside was that only 20% were blues and greens, the rest were black and larger, will still work for lings and halibut and ?...

Still I got a few fresh ones for springers tomorrow.

How far down? Could you be so kind as to disclose the location of your herring "zipper"? I think my kids would enjoy the heck out of that.
