Been looking to pick up a rod that will double as a good rod to plug springers with and then work for trolling large spinners/herring in the fall. Possibly even pull a diver if needed. I'm assuming a 12-25lb medium heavy?
I've held a few sticks that have really felt good in the last few years, one by Rogue, one mad out of a Rainshadow, and I think one was a Lami NW Special.
Since I don't live on the coast anymore and there's not many of these in Utah to actually pick up and feel, thought it would be prudent to get some models and opinions.
Not looking to spend a ton, something mid-range. Is it possible to combine the two things I'm looking for and have an excellent rod for both applications?

The Lami G-1312-T and Loomis STR1265c are 10.5 ft rods rated for 10-20# test.
A stouter butt in the same length rated for 10-40# test can be found in the Loomis SAR1265c.... my personal favorite.
If you like a shorter stick the SAR1084c is a 9 footer rated for 10-30# test.

GI JOes carries a line of rods, North by Northwest. I have one in a 7' 9inch model, 15-40 lbs, that I think is perfect for anchor fishing fall salmon. It was about 79 bucks. I don't know if they would mail order you one or not.

C'nD', I personally don't fish with anything over 7'9...mostly 7' or 7'6 medium heavy, one piece. 20lb test...not over 50 bucks here :p FOR EVERYTHING Troll double rigs in the Willamette with 6oz wt....anchor fish the Columbia...Spring...Summer...Fall, Backbouncing.....You don't have to sport big names or a long rod to catch fish. The terminal tackle and the right drag adjustments can catch alot of fish...just ask my 6'6 $9.99 Zebco Gatorback with a Abu-Garcia 5501 C-3 that has tamed many a Fall Chinook.... Save your money Louis F.

My vote is for the Loomis 1265c. The rod can yank kings out of just about anywhere.

Chromeo Would that be the STR (10-20# rating) or the SAR (10-40# rating)?

G-loomis HSR 1023c 8'6" 12-25# 1/2-5oz HSR1023C Length: 8'6" Power: 3 Pieces: 2 Casting A two-piece, fast-action plug and back-bounce rod with plenty of power. Designed for use in the big rivers of Alaska for trophy Chinook salmon, this rod works well in light saltwater conditions, as well. If you're after really big salmon, this is a pretty fair drift rod, with more than enough backbone for shoreline fishing. But it really shines back-trolling large plugs like Kwikfish or Wiggle Warts. I have three of them My favorite rod is a G-loomis HSR 982c 8'2" one pice 12-25# 1/2-5oz HSR982C Length: 8'2" Power: 2 Pieces: 1 Casting A more powerful version of the G.Loomis plug rod, designed to fish larger plugs, this particular rod was developed for big fish areas like Tillamook Bay in Oregon or the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, where you need bigger baits and more lead to be effective. Able to cast lures of up to a couple ounces and handle up to 5 ounces in a Trolling/mooching situation. The rod's long cork rear grip gives you the total control. ......Ross

Buy a Shimano TDR 1803. 12-25 MH, 8 ft., or Shimano TDR 1804 15-30 H, 8 ft. You don't need a sensitive rod for trolling or anchoring up and fiberglass is tough. $30-35.

Good stuff guys...appreciate the info and replies. BIG THANKS!!!
Living back here, I've spent most of my free time and hard-earned duckets on a new quiver of skis, foaming in boots, backcountry avalanche gear, and saving up for a new sled. Really neglected the salmon fishing side of things, although I do keep my Olympic on the LC and make a few trips a year back home to remember what fishing is really like. Tired of flinging size 18-22 emergers at trout.
I'll have more time starting next fall to get back there and hammer away...thus wanting to update my rod quiver!

I'd have to say either the G-Loomis 1265C, 10.5' (10-40#) or the 1084C, 9' (10-30#). Either one works great, and I have several in my arsenal. I love the 1265 for downriggers too!!!
