Put in last spring and did the Flats to Ice House float and saw a drift boat coming down from above. They said they'd drifted down from the hatchery. I see it's open for springs again this year was wondering if anyone had done that float and what to watch out for. I've done from Stinson's to the last pull out before the fish ladders @ 1800 cfs. Any input or Email me???

People that give incomplete drift information which could kill someone are high on my list of not-nice folks. Here is my read, based on experience. If you are a kayak/raft expert, you could do the reservation boundary to the hatchery and you may live, but it won't be fun. I have done it solo in a Watermaster, but it was not easy. Watch water levels. Hatchery to the bridge above outlet falls: I have not done it, due to slots not wide enough to fit a hard boat. The bridge to Lydl bridge is modrate, but rocks/sweepers could be a danger. Lydl to Stinson: the same - no huge water, but lots of potential sweepers and shallow water. Stinson down is about class 2+, but the channel changes and I suggest scouting blind corners. I think that a person or more dies in this river every year, but overall, it's a great float.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Last fall, there was a nasty sweeper right above Leidl park that took down a driftboat the day before we did the drift.
ctflyfsh gave good advice about the drifts........especially about scouting blind spots before you commit.
Beautiful river, just be careful.

I basically live on the Klick during the summer, and if you're not a "veteran," the best advice I can give you is to stay from Lidle down. You can put it around "1-lane" bridge, but this is to be handled by excellent oarsmen as well as those who know the river well.
If you launch at Lidle, it's a very short drift to Stinson, with only one "touchy" spot which is around the first corner you come to. Usually we go right, but from what I've heard so far it's better to stick left. There's one good tumbler as you approach Stinson, but hit it straight on and you'll bust right through.
If you decide to go down to either the Slide-In launch or Icehouse, you'll be pretty safe all the way through. Truly the only spot you need to watch out for is the last corner as you approach Icehouse, which is followed by some land mines all the way up to the Icehouse launch.
Hopefully this helps, and if not let me know, I can help out more!!
