I heard that the fish flash is great in the prop wash for trolling. Which diver or 6 - 9 ounce banana is better for dept ( 35 to 50 pulls) ? How length of leader is behind the fish flash for cut plug or whole herring and spoons ? How length is behind the fish flash for the diver or the banana sinker ? I bought the fish flash "both side of silver". Good ? What color of fish flash did you nail lots fish ? Thanks for helping..

The length of leader seems to vary, while I am fishing it in the ocean such as Westport, I use a standard mooching length. I partly do this because sometimes I actually stop and mooch, all I have to do is replace the Fish Flash with a sinker. If I am using a fish flash in an area like Johns River, I shorten it up to about 30 or so inches. I do this also when fishing the Chehalis river. Really, just don't be afraid to experiment and what works for you will do! BTW, that is the set-up that I used last year to land that 60 pounder out at Westport, so yes they do work.

FishFlash color is irrelevant.... as long as it's green for kings!! That said, I must admit I run red ones for silvers in the bay/river, also silver on both sides for those folks who don't like any color, and of course a pinky-purpley one for my wife who refuses to put anything out there without some pink or purple on it. When considering leader length, it's a matter of personal preference. The only limitation to consider is the length of your rod. Add up the distance between your hook and flasher, the flasher itself, and any additional leader to the weight or diver.... when you total it all up, just make sure it's not any longer than the rod you are fishing with, or you are courting trouble when it comes time to net the fish. It's impossible to lift a fish to the surface on the end of 10 feet of terminal gear when you only have 7 feet of rod. Get the point?

fishn has it dead on .... make a bunch of notes as you start to fish them... some other hints are color and depth of water..... the darker the water.......the darker the color, that's why red works so good in the Chehalis, and glow works good ran deep on down riggers, oh and one other thing....... make sure if you are running a fish flash and a plug cut, put a good size swivel in between for when the chain on the fish flash gets plugged with weeds and grass.
Bonk em all! you paid for them!

Nice setup Grandpa, but I think the place to have your BB swivel is between the diver and the FishFlash..... the FF is spinning and the diver is not.
I would also caution folks about the use of bead chains rigged in direct line, unless you are absolutely sure of the source and pound test rating on your bead chains. They are notoriously inconsistent in quality and have been known to fail commonly. I once had one break while fighting a silver using only 12# test mainline! A standard barrel swivel is generally of more consistent quality. Better yet, go with another BB swivel between the FF and the herring... they spin a lot more freely than a std barrel swivel or bead chain.
Remember a herring rotates a lot faster than the FF and is the primary source of line twist when trolling for salmon. I've had more than one occasion where I reeled in all my goods where everything behind the FF was just a tangled wad of mono, hooks, and strangulated herring.
The last season saw a new generation of FF's rigged standard with a pair of high quality BB swivels fore and aft, instead of the usual bead chains. If you have a choice, reach for the ones with the BB swivels.

"Fishnphysician" knows his stuff!!!!! The biggest thing I can reinterate on is the total length of your riggin' as compared to your rod length. That's why I've changed to 10.5' rods. I like using the longer leader (5-6'), plus the delta dive and a fishflash.
