Haven't fished salt water for a couple years, and my dad, brother and I are heading out to Shilshole tomorrow.

I can't make heads/tails out of the regs for that area...could someone fill me in on the details? (ie: are Kings open? Coho only? any requirement for pinched barbs, etc?)

We'll probably not get the boat in the water till about 9, so will miss the early bite. Hopes are to boat a couple fish and have a good time. Checking the weather/seas reports it looks pretty good (flat water).

If anyone has had success, could you give me a hint or two on set-up? Rods/reels are no prob, but would trolling a hoochie behind a flasher work (always a crap-shoot, but ??)

OK, figured out the regs. Seems open for Coho only..no prob there.

We can pick-up some herring, if that is what is working. Seems always good to have some, anyway, as I have caught fish on it before. Would prefer to drag a hoochie (color?) behind tha flasher, or spoon, or ??

TIA,

Mike

Mike,

I would fish hoochies or cuttlefish and herring strips, white or white with green stripe or purple haze....

....or Aurora(my favorite go to):

Put a 1 inch herring strip on the leading hook, 26-32 inches behind a hotspot and troll 2-3 mph.

Start at West Point, fish on a line between the green and yellow bouy (yellow bouy on west side of sound) 200 yards south of a direct east to west line, If no fish start trolling north to south. around the green bouy.

If you catch any fish stick around the same area.

If no fish go to Jeff head and troll the heck out of it on the outside of the bar.

If no fish hit Meadow Point on the way back to Shileshole and fish it in 80-120 feet of water.

If no fish there go to the real bar and dream about fish.

Mike, I fished out at West Point and Meadow point last Saturday and did real well on Silvers.
The hot set up was a green glow Hot Spot with a white glow hoochie and a herring fillet
at 90'. and yes, you had better have the barbs pinched down or you'll be the one getting pinched. Good luck!

Stopped in at Linc's tackle yesterday and it appears there are squid all over the sound. A few of the regulars are reporting pulling in near limts north and south. Unless you saw a lot of herring showing I would hootchie it up.

I don't think you guys could make it much easier for me. WOW!

Sky-Guy - thanks for the great pics. I went out to N. Sales and bought a few of those squids, couple color variations around the one you show.

We have fished West Point some in the past and done reasonably well, but there will be three of us tomorrow and limites (or even 1 ea.) would be great.

If anyone will be out there, were in a 1969 16'6" Glaspar tri-hull design, 90 HP Johnson, with johnson kicker and Cannon uni-troll downriggers.

Captain:

Got on the water late (9:00), and headed out to West Point. I just handled the boat and let my brother and dad fish - since I can fish any day I want, they can't.

Saw a few fish boated, one that had to be close to 13 lbs. (fellow held it up, we were right beside him).

My brother hooked one, did a long-distance release on it (10 ft. from the net).

Later, about 1:30 and just as we were getting ready to bring 'em in and head back to the ramp, my dad's rod started singing...

Right off the bat I knew I wasn't a silver..unless it was a real pig. A few minutes later my dad brough the fat 15+ lb. Chinook to the side, where I released it. Nice fish, and the first King my dad ever caught..needless to say he was just jazzed about catching it, and didn't have a worry at all about me releasing it. He was \:\) and I was

Partner and I hit Meadow Pt Saturday at 7:30. Got 1 coho right off the bat - then nothing but shakers for 2 hours. Went down to West Point, and on the troll back to the marina (at slack tide) hit a couple more and missed a couple too. Relatively small - 6-7# but good for bbq. They all hit on bait with no flasher - 50' I tried B2's and hootchies but only got shakers. It was nice playing 'em without the flasher.

Thanks for the reports guys! Dad and I fished Jeff Head today for limits of Coho, biggest one weighed 12#. Looks like we're in for a great Coho year!
