I'm looking for a new spinning reel that will handle all of my fishing needs. From small perch to 40# salmon, I'm having trouble narrowing down the field since there are so many different reels out there.
Preferably something in the 30-80 dollar range.

Thanks \:\)

When or I should say IF you find a reel like that, please don't post. My wife may read it \:D

I've got a Shimano Spirex that has been a really good reel. Right in your price range. I've ccaught small fish with it and have caught 10 pound silvers that just had the drag singing and it's held up great.

i'm right there with ya stihlhead...screws the whole pemise of my argument of why i need so many different rods, reels, hook sizes, hook types, etc, etc...to be brutally honest with you, there is not a single reel that is designed to handle fish optimally from perch to kings...at the very least you should have at least 3 different reels of different size and line capacity..i just seem to think i need a whole lot more

Spirex 2000 for the perch, 4000 for the kings.

I only have one good spinning reel and it is a Shimano Spheros 4000.

Filled with 30 lbs. Powerpro, you can get enough line to tackle big fish. My biggest fish with it came yesterday when I hooked into a 20pound buck that made one huge run that really tested the drag. I was sure happy with the reel after landing this guy.

I also use this reel for fishing with the kids for bass and it works fine, as it's not too large for my 7' rod.

Drawback - Only comes with one spool, and replacements are expensive.

Look on ebay, as these turn up often in like-new condition.

Good luck

Any comments on Pflueger reels?, specifically the Solara 5740.

Pflueger spinning may be ok, but I haven't heard anything much about them. I'm partial to Okumas.
