Going out in the bay tomorrow out of West Seattle. Got the rare weekday off and I'm just itching to get out. How are the silvers doing in the bay? All gone like the sun and warmth? I'll be out by 9 AM. I think tide change is 11:30. Anybody been catching at the Head? Am I too late? Thanks in advance!

I heard that! I have to take full advantage of the time off! I'm a born and bred moocher but I bought a boat with downriggers. If the wind is blowin' I might bust out the stupid fishin' (just my pet name for DR'in). Any suggestions for what to use and how deep? If it works, I may be a convert! :-)

ZP, When I fish for silvers just outside of the Duwamish Head, I try to stay in atleast 200' of water and fish 60' to 90' deep.. My favorite set up is, a 11" glow in the dark hot spot fasher, 36" of leader with a green spatter back hoochie.
Don't forget the herring teaser.
Glow white hoochie has been really good at times.

Charr, Thanks for the tips. I have the hoochies and herring. I also bought some coyote spoons in orange tiger and silver and a green, gold and silver. Have you had much luck with spoons? Do you use spoons with a flasher?

The only time I use spoons is when I'm Blackmouth fishing. Not saying they wouldn't work though.

I would do exactly as Charr instructed, but would start with both the splatterback hootchy AND the white glow hootchy. I have found some days they like one, other days its the other. After working Duwamish head (and to the West along the beach), I would scoot North to 4 mile rock, then West Point, then finally Meadow Point (if it comes to that). This year I've hit most my fish deep...55, 65, 80, 90, but in years past shallow did the trick also.

Oh ya...I haven't fished Duwamish for silvers yet this year, but have had success at West Point, Meadow Point and Edmonds. According to my log, last year I hit 3 silvers at Duwamish and 1 at 4-mile on Sept 13, so your timing should be okay.

I'll be out Sunday so if you make it out a report would be greatly appreciated.

on the leaders i have been having better luck with shorter leaders for silvers then what you would use for kings. try 12 to 18 inches and troll faster.

ZZZZZZPow, the tips you got were good ones, I have fished Area 10 for 25 years, and have detailed log book entries for Sept.
I am a troller (Scotties Rock!) My set-ups are the same year after year, and always work if there are fish around.
I fish a flasher/fly combo, my leaders are 30 inches on the nose. fly colors almost match exactly to the hoothcie colors the others mentioned.
Flasher of choice, full size (11in.) Hotspot, I don't use knock offs only the original Hotspot.
again I agree with the other board memeber hands down, glow/green, or glow/chartruese.
two 5/0 92553S mustads tied 1/4inch apart facing the same direction, I stack glow or pearl beads to get both of those hooks at the back of the fly. you want the fish to get BOTH hooks into his face.
troll fast, 4mph to start, if you aren't getting bit....speed up, don't worry they have no trouble catching it.
I fish predominately out in the shipping channel, 600 feet of water.
look for the rips, and troll the rough side.
I rig a 1 gallon clorox bottle with a 6 oz. lead and 15 feet of line attatched, when you hit a fish, toss this overboard, and then troll large figure eights around the bottle until you limit.
don't forget to retrieve the bottle!
this stays with the water, and the coho school.
A gps does no good as it only marks the spot on the planet and not the moving current, and the moving school of Coho's.

Thanks for all the positive and HELPFUL advise! The two of us got two silvers around the 5-6 lb range. Not bad for a couple of amatures with DR's. We got 'em on the old Krockadile spoon in silver and red! By the way, no harm intended with my ill advised "stupid fishing" comment. Thanks again!

I'm in providing the timing works. Let me see if I understand the rules. Everyone puts up a sixer/half rack, then we fish all day, compare notes/catches at end of day, winner takes all and/or shares beer with new found friends

King Salmon....bum luck with your back. Sunday out of Shilshoe was awesome. Had our 4 fish limit by 8:30 and hadn't even cracked a beer yet.
