I usually try for blackmouth at Pt. Defiance in the winter when I can get out. This year I have my own boat and wanted to get to know a new area. If there is anyone out there who doesnt mind offering some starter advice on blackmouth I am interested in fishing Manchester and points south of the Narrows Bridge. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Salmon U has a good page on Manchester: Salmon U on Manchester

I usually fish the areas they recommend and do well.

Downriggin' is an expert on the areas south of the Narrows. You can do a search for some of his posts or PM him, I'm sure he will be happy to help.

I live in Port Orchard and fish quite a bit off Manchester. I have not fished much for blackies, but plan on doing it this year.

I have found quite a few legal and sublegal blackmouth off Manchester wile looking for silvers. Between Yukon Harbor and the launch. Right about where Salmon U says they will be, but further South. I don't know if they will continue to hold there through the winter, but that is where I will be looking.

I am always looking for fishing parters. Shoot me an email @ talbotsja@wavecable.com if you are up for it. I fish quite a bit with Capt.Dan from from this site.

CF,

Beyond popular belief, MA13 is a great area to fish. I spend about 85 percent of my time pursuing Blackies around various spots:

Early November is the beginning of the Sand Lance spawning. The spawning activity draws some large Blackie into MA13. I generally start fishing around Harstene Island (Dana Passage side) the first week of November and work my way to the more northern spots and the weeks progress. Don't overlook Devils Head up into Drayton Passage during this period...

Without a doubt my favorite (and most productive) spot is Green Point. Between the 7th and 20th of December is when I catch the majority of my larest fish of the year. The Sand Lance really draw the biggin's in.

If you are looking at fishing right now. try the Chamber's Creek area. This is a good starting point of early Blackies as a lot of bait is always in the area during October before spreading out throughout MA13.

Some other spots to look at are Gibson Point, Oro Bay/Cole Point on the flood tide. The Staircase area can be productive, but normally doesn't produce well until April/May time frame.

Downriggin, I have fished the south sound but mostly mooching, gibson and the develhead. This year I am trying to get back into dragging the big balls. Can you give me a hint on some good hardware to drag arround that might give me a little advantage any info would be appreciated, thanks

Spoons/hootchies behind a flasher mainly.. Sometimes a plug.

Spoons: Coyote, Sonic Edge, Kingfisher, Devils Tails, and Coho Killer. Colors: Green Splatter, Green/Glow, Cop Car, Army Truck, Jolly Roger, Watermelon, and Glow Below are awesome

Hootchies: Same as above. The B-2 Mini Squid is a top producer! I'll run either a #3 Willow Leaf blade or #4 Spin N' Glo in front..
