Ick.

Got up this morning to see the river over the beach and part way up the "high water" bank.
Major debris, as in the time it takes to have a smoke, I saw a dozen logs 50'+, with root balls, drifting down the river.

Flow is currently near 40,000 CFS, level approaching 23'. (Yesterday AM was just over 17'). Yep, it rose 6 feet since yesterday.

Fortunately, it is supposed to STOP raining tonight...let's hope so. I am getting bad memories of Oct. 21 of last year. That flood cost us a foot of property off the back side.

Any other rivers in this kind of condition?

Mike

All the "S" rivers around here are doing that. Checkout the Sky at Goldbar gauge....about 9ft rise overnight and predicted to go over flood stage now. Its been interesting to watch how good the predictions were on that new river level site that somebody posted a while back. If they are right you'll not be flooded in Concrete but they didn't predict the Sky to flood as late as yesterday though they did show a big rise. I'm impressed that it is as accurate as it is.

Do you have the URL for the new site? I'm using the standard USGS site. Anyway, whats the difference. Don't they all use the same data? Does it update more frequently or something?

As of 8:45 a.m. the Sky is .13 feet over flood stage.

Here's the link: http://www.nwrfc.noaa.gov/river/river.cgi?zoom?2?1.1.1.1.0_1.1.1.1_1?zoom?119,213?197,411
with the zoom set for the north end S rivers. You can reset the zoom for another location if you like. I think it is the same data as the other site but provides a forecast, which the other site does not. I also like the option to get a quick gauge reading without the charts by just moving the cursor over the site of interest.

The site shows you the river levels for the preceding days and a projection for the coming days.

Thanks for that great link.

Here is a shot from about an hour ago...that tree has got to be a 100'..and I could hear branches scouring the bottom (moving boulders!) as it went.

At least the big logs that were hung up on our beach are gone. Smalma (or Salmo?) told me the redds are safe till about 45k CFS, so I'm sure some are in peril.

Crap.

Hey Mike,
Good news...the gauge at Marblemount shows that the river has already crested up there and maybe a little lower and earlier than the last forecast. The sauk is still going up but forecast to "only" go to 30k, nothing like last years 100k+. Hopefully we'll be back to fishing in a coupla days without too much damage. BTW if you haven't seen it, checkout JohnnyCoho's updated site with instructions on how to use the river gauges up there. Great info.

"They" say the river has crested...from here I can't say it looks any better.

Last time this happened (just a few weeks ago), the river cleaned up in a hurry. Hopes are this time will be the same outcome and we can get back to fishing before too long.

Time to pray for cold weather and snow!

NO MORE FLOODING! Last year I lost an estimated 40 acres! Yes, you read it right....40 acres! The rivers have minds of their own and they show no mercy.
