For you spinner-maker folks out there:

Do you prefer French blades or Colorado blades for river fishing for salmon and steelhead? It seems like many of the popular commercial brands (Mepps and Blue Fox) use French blades, but there are a few Colorado blade styles...

Thanks in advance.

I know what you are talking about. I grew up tossing Pflueger colorado spinners with my dad on the Cedar Rv. Most of the hard-core NW spinner fishermen use the french-style spinner blades in size 3,4,4.5, 5 and a few in size 6. Pen-Tac or Mor-tac supply a wide range on size and finish, Mor-tac also makes a hammered finish(whichI happen to like alot). If a guy makes his own spinners there is no reason why colorado blades can't be installed, other than being a bit lighter than the french-style I don't see why they whould'nt work fine. One thought is that they might not reward the fisherman with as much feedback @ the rod tip as the other style due to the lighter weight, I'm sure they can work in the same RPM range, as I remember working those pflueger's thru some pretty choppy/fast water and nailing rainbow's alongside the old man........

Cheapskate:

At 1 time, I was making and selling spinners. Have lot's of spinner making stuff left:

1. bodies
2. beads, lot's of different colors
3. blades

Have gotten away from the need to "make a few bucks", so have lot's of stuff just sitting in boxes and bags.

If interested.........email me..........put "spinner stuff" in subject line, so I don't delete.

in canada... the use colorado blades alot but not necessarilly on spinners. they often use a colorado blade above a pink worm that is fished under a float or above bait.

Freedom for me too \:\) Thanks for the correction in advance Eric.

Think you'll find it works "better" in heavier flows than a Colorado of similar size.

If youwant really cheap prices on components, try Worth Company. They are a manufacturer (Pen Tac and Mor Tac are not)and spinners run about $.40 a piece. They usually sell in quantities of 1000, so get a bunch of friends to go in with you. They will sell any quantity you want, but of course, the price goes up the less you buy.
