My dad and I are thinking about coming up to the OP on Presidents Day weekend to chase some steelhead.

Is there good action up there around that time?

Any recommendations on some good floats?

Recommendations on a place to stay?

I'd be more than willing to reciprocate with Oregon coast fishing info.

It's been many years since I've spent time up there.

Thanks in advance.

The people at Three Rivers Resort have been very good to my friends and I when we stay there.

You can run into some VERY nice Natives \:D that time of year. Mid to late Feb I have done good. I usually stay at Forks Motel.

A good time of year, but also the busiest week-end of the entire wnter season, so be prepared for that.

Hard to forecast this far out where to go ... been dry for a while, perhaps the bigger dirtier rivers to the south of Forks, if it's been wet, head north \:\) But certainly be careful on the more northern streams as they will cause some issues if you're not familiar with them. Easiest float of course would be Maxfield to Whitcomb Dimmel \:\)

Thanks for the input Bob.

Can you recommend some rivers and floats.

I've been on the Sol duc once, I can't remember where we launched or pulled out, but it wasn't that technical.

I've hunted on the upper Hoh, I'm pretty familiar with the river up there. Can you still take out below Wiloughby creek? What's a good float on the Hoh?

The Schmidt Bar gate has been locked for some time, so you'll have to go to Oxbow (4 wheel only) if you do the upper Hoh. You can lauch at the Park or Morgan's for that float. All water above Oxbow is selective only. River is far more finicky about weather than it used to be.

Hatchery to Wilson's or Leyendecker is most popular on the Bogey, but will require some dry weather to be in shape. Same deal as the Hoh.

The mentioned drift is probably the only one I'd considier recommending on the 'Duc without knowing the splits ... otherwise you might find yourself in some trouble ;\) That'd be your best higher water bet.

Other rivers further south would be an option too ... depends much upon the weather, how you like to fish, and how much company is too much on that week-end ;\)
