Coming from the camp of "Kerry the Uniter" and "let's make sure that every vote is counted", the Democratic Party has sued the State of Florida to have Ralph Nader's name removed from the election ballot. So what is wrong with letting the people that want to vote for Nader, actually vote for Nader?
From the AP "The state Democratic Party is suing to keep Nader off the ballot because, it argues, the Reform Party is no longer a legitimate national party and that Florida election laws requiring minor candidates to qualify by petition or through a nominating convention weren't followed.
The lawsuit is part of a national effort by Democrats to keep Nader off ballots in states where he could siphon votes from Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry."
So maybe the Dem's should be saying, "Let every vote count, as long as it isn't for Nader in a state where we could use a few more votes!"

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Pretty weak of them..............but rules ARE rules.

This is politics at its worst.
This isn't a panic move by the dems, its what they have to do in this situation, play defense. You have to admit um subverting the intent of Florida electoral law IS pretty smarmy....when and where have the reform party and Nader ever been bedfellows besides Florida? I don't know for sure but I'm guessing these cousins are kissin' for political reasons.....no?
...and ultimately why? There aren't many above-board answers I can think of.....
Nader should be ashamed of himself. Anyone associated with the remnants of the reform party should be equally ashamed.

Wouldn't this thread be just as appropriately title "Are the Republicans in panic mode"? After all it seems awfully coincidental that the only state in the union to allow Nader to run under the reform part just so happens to be the state Dubya's brother governs!
I claim no knowledge of the role the Governor's office has in identifying legit parties and legit candidates but it does have a funky aroma to it no?
Is Florida going to continue to be the sore thumb of our electoral process?

I think the worst part of this isn't just Florida, it is: "The lawsuit is part of a national effort by Democrats to keep Nader off ballots in states where he could siphon votes from Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry"
And Nader is on the ballot in 35 states!
So why are they only after Nader, why not Michael Badnarik (Libertarian), Walt Brown (Socialist) or david Cobb (Green Party)? Because Nader will actually accumulate some votes. And like I said before, the Dem's want every vote to count, as long as it's a vote for them. Maybe they will try to get Bush off the ballot in close states too, they might as I well because at this point it is probably their only chance for victory in November.

um
does nader deserve to be on the ballot in those states or is the ONLY reason righty wants him on there to split the dem vote?
Hmmm....sounds like RIGHTY is desperate.....bedfellowing up with with Nader, a sworn leftist enemy. Who cares what Nader stands for or whether or not his party deserves to be on the ballot?
Right, um?
Or do you have a REAL, reason for wanting to see nader on the ballot?
I

I feel the same way about having Nader on the ballot as I do about having Kerry on the ballot. It really makes no difference to me, because there is no way I would vote for either one of them. BUT......if there are people that feel he is the best choice, and want to vote for him, why would anyone want to prevent that vote from being heard?
