Sardonicus,

Moderation, twin peaks, supplemental oxygen . . . decisions, decisions, what's a guy to do? Reminds me of one of the funniest remarks I ever heard. It was on the old Barney Miller police TV show, possibly the only time I ever watched it. One of the cops tells the heroin addict in the booking room lock up cell, "you should stop using heroin; you're gonna' die." To which the addict shot back without hesitation, "so are you!" Question then, is moderation over-rated?

Jeff,

No prob.

TK,

I'm impressed by your sensitivity, coming as it does, from the biggest jerk in this forum. But since you've explained yourself as this type of Christian, accept God etc., but are nonetheless imperfect, I understand there's no obligation on your part for being truthful or any other positive attribute. If you always keep your word, good for you, but should keeping it become inconvenient, and given your religious explanations here, I accept that you've have a convenient out for yourself should you need to reneg.

And since my personal life is not on display here for your amusement, you have no way of knowing whether I kept my word or not; you're merely making the assumption that I did not.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

DanS reminds me of a poodle always running around yapping and nipping at peoples heeels. Stlhd is just a stupid pound mutt. The kind that just barks and barks for no particular reason other than to hear himself.

AM, Ouch you are really hurting me now. However the female thing is to insert oneself into man business by trying to be a mom. You are not all that good at it but still a female none the less and unable to help yourself. Let SG stand on his own two feet and quit being his mom. He started it let him finnish it.

Tk: His idol's are men who can't be trusted to tell the truth and/or hypocrits. So adding it all up I'd say anything TK say's is pure BS and he's a closet homo. He's fun to pick on though isn't he?

Call me anything you want over your keyboard, Mr. Big Pants.

I'd call you and Rory a name, but you'll start your blubbering and cry enough tears to blow out the rivers you don't fish.

from the quick browse of the post I am assuming this one started (loosely) on the subject of religion.

I have always believed that it is not the quantity, or denomination of the religion that matters, it is the quality of the spirituality within the beholder and the [G]ood [O]rderly [D]irection which they follow.

Which road should I take?" she asked the cat.
"Where do you want to get to?" the cat asked helpfully.
"I don't know," said Alice.
"Then," advised the cat, "any road will take you there."

PS Haven’t been to church in years but I know which road I'm on. KRM

I just read somewhere that that is among the top three most quoted books of all time. The bible was another of the three.

>>>“Thank you for pasting the story of the Prodigal Son. It’s the perfect story of lunacy, and the complete justification for irresponsible “Christian” behavior. If I’d read far enough through my Bible as a young boy, I would have stopped then and there at the Prodigal Son and made that my model of personal behavior. The Prodigal Son gets to have his cake (actually someone else’s) and eat it too. I can’t think of a better religious lifestyle than to spend it boozin’, whorin’, and being a general reprobate, and then just shy of my deathbed proclaiming my acceptance of Jesus as personal lord and savior. It just doesn’t get any better than that.

>>>The Prodigal Son, along with the far right wing whacko fundamentalist non-Christian Cult, have done more than anything else ever could to steer me toward my present spiritual soup of semi-Christian, Pagan, Heathen, . . . “

***The Prodigal Son story (Luke 15:11-32) is actually quite beautiful and demonstrates what unconditional love, free from pride, anger, etc is really like…

Christianity is about a REAL change of heart. It is about putting your self pride aside, humbling yourself, admitting your sinfulness. Becoming a Christian is NOT a ‘cure’ for sin in your life. That is still a daily struggle that God is there to help you with. You no longer need to be a slave to your fleshly desires, but are set free through Christ. When you do stumble, instead of ignoring it or justifying it, you admit it, repent, seek forgiveness, and move on. It is a process of becoming spiritually mature.

Luke 15:11-32 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)
The Parable of the Lost Son
11Jesus continued: "There was a man who had two sons. 12The younger one said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of the estate.' So he divided his property between them.
13"Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 14After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. 15So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. 16He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.
17"When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.' 20So he got up and went to his father.
"But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
21"The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.[a]'
22"But the father said to his servants, 'Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate. 24For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' So they began to celebrate.

{here is where the prideful attitude of Christians and even non-Christians comes in. Some Christians think that since they have been living a Christian life longer than someone else, they are more worthy in some way. For non-Christians, this is how many copout – “look, he lived a wild lifestyle and still got saved – so why should I bother now???”}

25"Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 27'Your brother has come,' he replied, 'and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.'
28"The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. 29But he answered his father, 'Look! All these years I've been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. 30But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!'
31" 'My son,' the father said, 'you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' "

TK,

Put your kimono back on and go in your house. I've seen enough, and not only it ain't pretty, it's downright nauseating.

You're still making assumptions. But coming here to be the biggest jerk on the block and seeing if you can p!ss people off must be the most ambitious task you've undertaken. Congratulations on your success at achieving the first of your two objectives.

Phreak,

Take a look at what you wrote:

"Christianity is about a REAL change of heart. Take that story to TK and Rory and tell what you think about their professed piety in this forum contrasted with their behavior. It's Christians like that who I want to distance myself from. Who needs a scourge like them on the planet?

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

Lets look at that one

"Take that story to TK and Rory and tell what you think about their professed piety "

Who professed piety? Is that another lie SG it's getting to be a habit with you. We know you professed certain things in front of friends and family that turned ou to be a lie. So maybe you should re read what Phreak said I think you could use it.

I'm not sure what your point is.

Should I go around to any and all proffessed Christians and judge and condemn anything I think is 'un-christian' behaviour? I'd be a BUSY man and would never have time to address the plank in my own eye ;\)

You are an educated man. You can see that there are Christians who strive daily to follow Christ and be a light to the world and there are those who are perhaps immature in there spirituality or maybe even never actually experienced the life changing grace of God, but just went to church and happen to know the Bible pretty well. I'm not going to say who fits in what camp. I have been known to change camps from time to time myself...

But back to my point, you are a pretty smart guy. To write off Christianity based on the actions\words of several individuals is a cop out and you know it. Look at the Bible and see what it says about the life of Christ and what it says about living a Christian life. You'll find those who do a pretty good job of living up to it (nobody's perfect) and those that do a horrible job.

"won't garner you any influence here if you continue to look the other way."

Whoa I bet that ruins his life. Better not put PP life beyond fishing on his resume or referance list.

Talk about thinking you are something you are not. That might set a record even for this place.
