My high school buddy and I were building a shed. He was a framer and had all the tools and a big framing axe/ hammer. Well he prided himself in tap then sink. Two wacks and a 16 penny nail sunk all the way in. He tapped then went for the sink and caught the edge of the 16 penny nail. I flew straight up and thru his eye. I just about soiled myself. I think he was calmer than I was. The paramedics showed up and bandanged the whole thing up with the end of the nail sticking up and he got to ride a ambulance to the hospital. He is now blind in that eye. Makes me shiver to even think about it 20 some years later.

The worst eye accident I've personally witnessed was at the annual 3-D Klickatat Archery Shoot. It happened at the running deer. Basically, a 3-D deer target hanging from pullys that gets pushed downhill on a rope. Twenty to thirty archers line up and shoot when the deer passes between two stakes in the ground for a shot window of about 20 yards. Problem at this tourney was, they set the first stake too far up the hill, too close to the guy pushing the deer. Long story short, an arrow glanced off the ass of the deer and you know the rest. I can tell you standing 30 feet away from a guy that gets shot in the face with an Easton XX75, in the eye no less, is NOT COOL.

Pretty much made everyone in attendance physically ill and ruined the rest of the shoot.

It's a spin-a-lure or little jake. They sold them in Yellowstone, and my brother got a 20 or 22" cutthroat on one of them.

Man that is hard to look at!!!

Having had minor surgery done to one of my eyes for removal of a metal shaving, the sound of that little drill made my blood curdle!!!

I've shot in a number of those 3D shoots, and while they are a lot of fun, I've often thought the targets were too close in proximity to one another, and not enough trees/barriers in between to catch deflected/errant arrows.

I can imagine the horror. Damn good thing it was a field point!

Unbelievable he has a chance to see out of that eye again.

Fishing with Todd just last year I looked upriver to see him staggering around in the water like he had just been hit with a right cross from Mike Tyson. He had been doing his usual squirrel hunting routine and was trying to recover his float and eggs from the far side of the river. You know....yank, yank, yank......smack! He recovers and walks down toward me and I see he has blood dripping from his forehead and big huge glob of egg goo on the right lens of his polarized glasses. The lead hit his forehead and the hook was going straight for his eye.

The only time I do not wear glasses is when it is absolutely pouring down rain.....hence I rarely wear them in Forks. \:\)
