Went to see Alice in Chains at the Paramount last night. They are still really good. Not sure what to expect without Layne Staley, the show was good as ever. It always dates things when the crowd sings along to more than one song, just my opinion. A break in the set had a bunch of video shots of Layne, showing how much he is missed. Any of you AIC fans out there that didn't make the show, you missed out.

I wondered how the new singer would do but the core band had quite a few choices in chosing a singer to fit their style.

The singer, William DuVall, was surprisingly good. The songs didn't sound cheesy with him. You know some are better than others. I saw him with Jerry in 2002 and he sang 3 or 4 AIC songs. That's what made me think this would be good.

I wanted to go see them in St Helens but bowed out. I will not miss the Smashing Pumpkins reunion. So that singer did a good job? I know no one can ever replace Layne, sad stuff.

The singer did a good job. He sounds good and there are similarities but he does not try to be Staley. To me it is not so sad. Layne had been out of the game for at least 5 years when he died. The band is still very good, I think if they can be successful touring and people want to see them, more power to them. Their shows have been sold out and there was video of Layne at different times during the show, so they are definitely not trying to forget him.

man i love the classics. sad to call them classic. cause those fours bands still have some of the best music out.

you guys would have loved to be at London Bridge studio back in '89 when my old band was shooting a video. The Alice boys were finishing off the demo that made them all millionaires while we were inside shooting some footage. A hilarious day.......cool guys. Funny as hell, had me busting a gut all day long. The last thing I ever thought at the time was they'd become that huge. I always liked their stuff (you should have seen them in local bars in the late 80s!) but since we were all local and played together at times, nobody figured much would happen for anyone. Little did we know........then Seattle hit the big time. They got rich, I kept going to work each morning.........and I'm still here LOL!

Mingo, so what is the name of your old band? I had friends back then who were in some of the really well known, and lesser known but still really good bands.

We were called San Prova, we had a couple songs on the old Zrock station in '89 and '90. We used to play the Central, Farside, Ballard Firehouse, Pier 70 on Hard Rock Tuesdays etc. I played lead and rythm guitar in that band. We played the Bite of Seattle in '90 on the good old Mural Amphitheatre stage.

Aah, the good old days, or what I can remember of them Do you remember a low-budget local rock magazine with a hilarious "local scene" writer named Jimmy St. Bitchin'? those were some crazy days. I left a few million brain cells on the Central Tavern stage alone.............

I don't remember the zine. I left a few million brain cells on the floor of the Motor Sports International Garage at a Melvins/Nirvana show when we got backstage passes from Matt Lukin, crashed the party and wreaked total havoc, and some guy did a somersault off the stage and caught me in the eye with a cowboy boot. I miss those shows.

I saw Alice In Chains back in 1989 at the Vogue down on 1st ave, near Bell. Those were the good old days while I was still single, twenty something, and living in Seattle.

brewer's very first seattle band grunge concert was AIC, 1993. couldn't find anyone to go with me. ticket price was 10$ so i went alone. yakima convention ctr. opening band was grunt truck. i had never been in a mosh pit before. brewer's eyes was opened to full contact concert participation!!!
Brewer, we must have moshed together then, I was front and center about 2 feet from Layne. Remeber when all the bags of grass started to fly on stage? Him and Jerry were loading up. One of the best shows I've seen.
