While I'm not a real handgun fan, I forsee a huge upswelling of "feel good" gun legislation in the wake of this latest tragedy.
I feel that kids that have learned gun safety and been exposed to the devistation infliced by firearms through the hunting experience, are much less likley to abuse firearms as compared to those that have only experienced this through video games and action movies.
People that are willing to commit this type of attrocity are exempt from the laws of our society.
I wish there was a real answer to preventing this type of tragedy.

It's almost impossible to prevent this type of tragedy. A sick mind will find some way to inflict death.........bombs, knives, cars, poison, not just guns. Gun control.........no. Everyone carry a gun...........no.

The news keeps trying to make the point of how to make colleges safe............again, impossible. Schools, especially colleges and universities are designed to be "open", open to learning, open to advancement, open to opportunity, and open to all. You can't shut down campuses because of a sick individual.

Plus Colleges already have armed campus police.

Already the debates have starteed on the radio. One guy wanted all foreign exchange students, especially muslims, deported because any one of them could be a potential terrorist.
Of course many nuts want every person carrying a concealed weapon and claim that would somehow reduce the loss of life.

As time goes by and these attacks become more frequent I think more level-headed people should carry handguns. They should licence them for concealment and make practice at the gun range part of their routine. If just one of those students had a gun they could have shot that fuc%er in the face and saved alot of inocent lives.

If only all of the high schoolers in Columbine had been armed things would have been different. The school would have been swiss cheese.
Of course the percentage of armed nuts would go up 1,000 fold as well.

I own a S&W 9mm semi-auto, and although I only shoot it on occation, I can pop the clip out and reload it in about two seconds. Those kids were screwed bigtime.

Parrot? I hate that fuc%ing bird. I came home the other day, wife and kids were gone and the parrot was loose in the house eating a deck of cards on the living room coffee table. I can't get the thing to "step up" on my finger without it biting me so I left it to do it's thing while I sat down with my lunch on the coutch to eat.

It looked at me eating, hopped off the coffee table and over to my foot and tried to step up on my foot to walk up my leg and eat some of my lunch. I wouldn't let it so the fuc%er bit my big toe.

What a fine line. The more press that sick F%$k gets the better idea it sounds like to all the other sick F^%kers out there. So you have the Rosie O's of the world pointing out the evils of guns. Then you have the "gun" guys of the world wondering what type of bullet the guy was using to inflick such an excellent kill ratio.

I dont have a CPL so I can go out and shoot people, I have it so myself & my family aren't the ones getting shot.

This is really sad and the gun lobby (anti and pro) are going to have a hay day on this. The anti's are going to call for all kinds of bans. The pro's are going to stand really firm. Both are going to look silly defending there side about guns when they should be worried about the people affected.

I dont like the fact that there was not one hero out of the crowd. Those students were prepared to do exactly what they have been told. Hide and wait for police. People theses days are told to not do anything stupid and not to confront criminals. I'm not exactly sure what I would do in this situation but I would like to think that if I had the opportunity to throw a chair or a desk at the a$$hole I would. Or try to tackle him when he went to another room (providing I dont have a hole in me already).

As parents I'm sure this is exactly what you would tell your child. "Dont do anything stupid and save your hide so you can come home alive." I'm sure you wouldn't tell your child to be a hero and stop the shooter. Hero's just emerge in the heat of the moment but I'm surprised that there wasnt one during this shooting. Maybe there was but we just havent heard about it yet.

I am at a University five days a week. It scares the sh!t out of me when stuff like this happens. I dont think I'll start packing my .357 to school. We had a student robbed at gun point in the bathroom just down the hall a couple of months ago. We also had a student murdered by by some nut job that said the student was trying to steal his ora.

We need to police ourselves a little better.

I was thinking to mention that story about the university student at U of I - It gets worse.

Appearently, this guy had a beef with a bunch of dudes that dated back to Jr High School. he beat up one kid and wound up with assult charges. He then told several of these kids that they better always be watching because someday he was going to kill them all.

Then he did it. He went on a 6,500 mile spree killing two and shooting another in the face 3 times ( he lived) he had several other targets picked out as well.

Thats the guy I was talking about in my post. I park my car about 150 yards away from where the student was killed. Apparently the nut job used to live in the dorms afew years back. The University had to get a restraining order put against him for starting fights and abusing other residents in the dorms. I'm glad they caught that fu%ker. I'm also glad the virginia shooter removed himself from the gene pool. It will be great not to have to go through the media circus behind this guy when he would have to go to court and all the appeals and BS.

The shooter popped himself in the head at or about the time the cops tried to get in to the building (and failed).

The shooter was well prepared. He chained and pad-locked the front door.

No idea how long the initial front-wave of police had to wait until a set of bolt cutters showed up.

Apparently, the police showed up pretty damn fast once the first 911 calls came from that 2nd location.

Don't know how many cops carry a set of Bolt Cutters with them while they charge in to battle.

The picture of the doors I saw on the news with students locked on the inside were glass doors for christ sake. Can you say "shoot the fuc%ing glass out?"

From what I can gather and see, that appears to be the front door of Norris Hall.

No glass. Typical solid doors found on university type buildings. You could shoot that door all day long and still not gain access inside.

So far, after the initial 911 call at 9:45, officers responded immediately but were confronted by barricaded and locked doors at Norris Hall, but were able to gain access within 1 minute.

Shots are still being fired on the 2nd floor during this access.

By the time officers arrive on the 2nd floor, shooting stops. Shooter is dead with a self-inflicted bullet hole to the head.

Sounds like the police did everything they could and as fast as humanly possible.

Our troops over over seas ( past - present and future) did not have the option of deciding what would happen to them. They simply did the job they were asked to do.. Arlingtons full of men who knew they had little or no chance going in. It was their job and their duty. I view law enforcement the same way.

Thousands and thousands of times one American has looked at the other and said "lets do this thing" knowing full well that it was probably going to be the last thing he ever said on earth.. and did it anyway because it was part of the big picture.
