I just finished reading The Davinci Code. I wished I would've (had the TIME) read the book before watching the movie.
So here's my ?
What book in particular that you wished you would've read, before watching the movie?
Mine, The Lord of the Ring trilogy

i read the TDC a couple years before the movie came out. Thought the film kind of sucked. Hot woman in it but Hanks was a poor choice for the lead imo. Wish i would have read The Eiger Sanction but I saw the movie as a kid so I didnt have that option. Trevanian is one of my favorite authors. Red Dragon was another book i read before seeing Manhunter. Great book and decent movie. liked it better than the remake titled Red Dragon. Too bad James Frey got outed as a fraud. Million little pieces was an excellent book i came across years before fat ass oprah put it on her "list" of things to read. same with Elie Weisel's books. Thanks for putting up with my crap for taste in literature if it can be called such.

"Million little pieces was an excellent book..."
Agreed...too bad that sack o'crap that wrote it had to go and make it all up...Frey didn't do anyone who actually has lived that life any favors, that's for sure.
2001 A Space Odyssey...excellent movie, really excellent...Kubrick really did it up on that one...but if you read the book first, the movie makes a lot more sense!
Fish on...

Read "Seabiscuit" before seeing the movie. Actually liked both, the book obviously had more insight and detail on everyone......and the horse.

I was fortunate to have read "Lord of the Rings" before any of the movies came out. The books can stand alone! The movies can stand alone! BUT...Now my kids have seen all the movies first and are only just now starting to read the books. While they are enjoying the books, finding lot's of details that aren't in the movies, they still know the outcome already so they are missing out on the suspense of what's around the next page. And that's too bad because that story ROCKS the first time you READ it!
I'm drawing a blank on books I wish I would have read before seeing the movies because I almost always read the books first I guess. Seldom do I read the books after seeing the movies. One exception, "Into Thin Air", I saw the movie first and read the book second....the book was much better I thought.
PS>>>I almost named my son "Bilbo" but the wife nixed that idea so he became just plain "Bo". Although his legal name "William" fills in the "Bill" part!

I can't remember any flicks I saw before the reading books. The Bourne books were good as was the movie. I think the main character was fleshed out more in my mind than the movies had time to do. Reading Elmore Leonard's books "Rum Punch" from which the movie "Jackie Brown" was taken and "Get Shorty" added a lot to the movies. Both flicks were different from the books but represented the books well in the basic characters. Of course, my wife works in a book store and I commuted on the Brem ferry for 71/2 years so I had time to read alot.

well most clancy movie adaptations are good. sum of all fears sucked as a movie. the book was excellent. havent seen Everything is Ilumminated yet but the book was both hilarious and sad. most p.k.dick books i have read rock but arent the best movie making choices.A Scanner Darkly was an exception to this. now if someone could just make Dr. Bloodmoney into a decent movie.

Dune.
Ok, granted I read the book first, but pa-leeze. I feel sorry for anyone who saw this movie without reading the book first.
Flight of the Intruder.
Again, I read the book first. Movie sucked balls, book was good.

Sometimes movies butcher the book...Although its hard to produce a movie in 2 hours when the book is 400 pages long....
