I figured out after about 20 minutes that it had to be rigged in a lot of different ways. I mean the guy eats a grub and some flowers and it appears that is enough calories for him to hike 3 miles, build a fort, and set a trap. I get shaky by 0930 if I don't have oatmeal and a banana.
Some of the stuff is pretty cool to watch even if it is fake. I mean what ultimately attracts people to the show and gives it the ratings is that the "Bear" guy is good looking, charismatic, and engaging.
I look at it and am like "If I were lost in the woods the first thing I would do is jump a cross a creek, swing from a branch, climb a water fall, drain an elephant [censored] for water, build a hammock, and a fort and get ready for a gruelling day of running down hill and just floating down rapids"
I mean 99% of the tourons who get lost will not have the upper body strength to do about 90% of the things that "Bear" does. The show is for entertainment only, and I say does a pretty fair job of it, it is about the only thing I watch that my wife tolerates (probably because he is good looking and sounds like the gecko on those commercials). He probably shouldnt say "I'll show you how to survive" at the beginning of the show, because he's mostly wrong.
The other show "Survivorman" is way more realistic, but much more boring to watch.
