here's the topic. bands that have two guitar players in the band. why does the lead vocal guy need to pick up the guitar and actually need to play it?

i was watching a dvd recently of a great band, that i have always liked. thier lead guitar player is a screamer, yet on a 3rd of the songs the lead vocal guy plays a useless cord on the songs that actually does the song no justice. the rhythem guitar guy could easily cover the cord himself.

does this gripe seem legit? hey if your in a band that already has 2 guitar players, what makes the vocal guy think he needs a share of that spot light too!

say you watch a dvd and rob halford sports a guitar?
bon scott sproting the guitar.(before he died of course)
bruce dickenson ???
clause meine ???

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

You answered your own question already.

Why didn't Bon, Rob, Bruce or Klaus pick up a guitar? Because they didn't have to.

What sets Bon apart is he DID pick up the bagpipes. How f'n cool is that?

As cool as it gets. I only wish he stayed around a few more years. That guy could write some lyrics.. I saw them live when he was still up front. Best show EVER.

What about bands like mine where the lead vocalist also plays rhythm guitar??

Is that annoying?

Seems like Lynyrd Skynrd did just fine with like six guitar players.

How many guitar players does Iron Maiden have now?

Personally, from a being in a band standpoint, I prefer a power trio. Way easier to manage than these bands with a dozen members....

I think the difference is being talented enough to pull it off rather than being a poser. Clapton is a perfect example of someone who can do both.

It seems like the most important factor in becoming a commercially successful rock band is image. The lead singer holding the guitar and doing practically nothing with it is doing it to look either cool or busy.

If the most important factor was the music, a lot of the "popular" bands would never have made it.

Paul Stanly. KISS wouldn't be KISS.
