Anyone who knows me knows I'm all about breaking stereo-types, so I did my part on the Skok on Friday by bumming a fish off of a black man. I "somehow" became intangled in this man's silver salmon while he was fighting it. He had a pretty good stringer of healty ho's going on the beach and didn't seem particularly interested in this one when it hit the beach, and I couldn't help laugh at the irony so I asked him if he wanted it. He gave it to me. About this time the thing came loose at our feet and made a break across the shallows headed for deeper water. I didn't want to look "too" desperate by chasing it down, so I made a half-hearted attempt to kick it to safety. I missed, but it swam under the boat, which was sitting on the graveld bar. We figured it got away. About 20 minutes later Tony looks down and sees a tail sticking from out under the chine of the boat, reaches down, grabs it and throws it in the boat.

Anyway, I was shoving grilled silver in my mouth Saturday night when Richard called and I told him that I was eating a fish I bummed off of a black man. \:\)

I somehow hooked a nice silver in the tail with a spinner. Was debating on keepin it. What the heck there were more to catch. I let her go & she swims into a rock & conked herself out. Tasty

Same guy showed me how to catch fish on the Skok. He said, "Cast right over there, count to three and set the hook.......look, hooked right in the mouth." \:\)

I kept coming up with a Chum. Not sure what he was doing different, but he was "dialed" on the silvers. Some other tool in the line-up went off on a tangent about fishing ethic and morals vs lining fish. I was thinking, "Dude, you're on the Skok for Christ sake." Dan and Tony fair-hooked...and lost...at least 5 big chrome silvers on spinners (I swear those two are married the way they get along). Should have been a banner day fish wise, but, ya'll know how that can go.

We're such f'n 'tards.

I foul-hooked a chumster in the dorsal fin.......landed that mofo no problem. But can I land a fair-hooked silver? Noooooooooooo.

If you'd have walked down to the boat another couple dozen times, we'd have landed one eventually. (Every time Tim walked down to the boat, we'd hook a fish. We tried sending him down there for no particular reason, but he wouldn't go.)

F'n silvers and their "look at me.......I'm going to spin and twist and flip around" moves.

If you'd have been less stoned, like that's even possible, you might have mustered up the reaction time to actually bury a hook-set.

Would it have made any difference if the dude was WHITE?

Guess I don't get it.

Great story on the fish hanging around though!

Why do I get the idea fishing the skok for Silvers sounds like fishing in a bathtub? Sounds like you guys are having a ton of fun down there.

Yeah, it swam under the boat so fast it lodged itself sideways beween the boat and the gravel bar and drowned itself. It's hard to respect a fish that is that stupid, but like a women I know, I ate it anyway.

When it first came loose and took off I started chasing it. An image of some kid running through a sprinkler came to mind, which struck me as UNCOOL, so I stopped and pretended not to care that it got away. I even looked around to see if anyone noticed. Slamin' big BC steelhead one week, and chasing down a snagged 6-pound gift fish on the Skok the next. WTF?
