Well now that we've had the final State of the Union address by our commander in Chimp, what say ye? Was there any news in the speach last night? After seven years of republican dominated earmarks Bush is not going to stand for the Pork in the budget. I guess we can't afford any more bridges to nowhere.

I couldn't imagine listening to Bush being a wise investment of my time. So I didn't. I did have a positive thought about it tho (it was on the TV in the locker room at the health club); it's his last one.

I'm going to throw a raging party on the day that SOB walks out of the White House for good.

On a side note I saw ZERO coverage of his speech last night except by BBC America (the only real TV news left), which concluded he really said nothing of any real note and there was just as much time spent applauding as there was speaking.

The "uniter" spent the first half slamming the Dems and the second half grinning after talking about each of the "accomplishments" he's achieved while in office. The guy seams pretty detached from reality.

Agreed.

Whoever gets to clean up this mess is going to catch all the flak for this massive war debt that has now come home to roost. America is going to be feeling the cost of the Bush Family for a good decade or more, and with any luck we can have most of it paid off by the time the Baby Boomers go to cash in on Social Security... which is already starting.
Americans have a piss-poor memory when it comes to sh*t like this, and whoever's up next is going to have to crank up taxes in order to pay for 6 years of War and massive tax cuts....(Like buying a house with a Credit Card and quitting your job at the same time...) and he'll be the one hated for it and the one the GOP will point the finger at, and the one who, as a Democrat (I hope), will be too much of a pussy to lay the blame where it properly belongs.

We are 13 months away from all the Republican blowhards....on TV, on the radio, and right here on the internet...blaming the country's woes on the new Democratic President...but we'll be dealing with Dumbya's destruction of our integrity, honesty, economy, standing in the world community, civil rights, and civility in general...for a long time to come.

What a jackass. I hope all of you who voted for him...especially the second time...feel really good about yourselves.

Fish on...

This country is brainwashed Republican. Especially most of the military. They campaign on lower taxes but then run up deficit spending which ends up costing more in the long run. Like George Stepanopolis said he will be remembered for one thing and that is Iraq. Where is Osama bin Laden?

I don't think the Dems can overtake the GOP machine in the presidential election. Obama and Clinton are just beating each other up. I had hope they would team up and run together. Edwards is too much of a liberal.

We're going to end up with another Bush and his name is McCain. Guliani just bowed out. Romney will not get the backing of the right wingers. Huckabee came in 4th in Florida.

Loved that video on the new Bush coins. Yes we have over the last seven years given our children a dept they can never repay. I'm sure they will thank us for it. Regan gave us a four trillion dollar deficit and Bush has more than doubled that. Currently it is $9.25 trillion. That is over $30K for each and every person in the U.S. http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/ Soon the half of the US budget that doesn't go for defense will go to pay the intrest on the debt. That is one way to shrink goverment. Bush isn't a real republican, he hasn't shown any fiscal restraint in the 7 years he has been in office and the next president will have to cover for him. I pitty the fool.

So they can't tie a blood knot or change a tire, doesn't mean they are incompetent. Most rich people, (real rich people, not politician rich), knew the economy was gonna do this for awhile, it's a market correction. They pull their money out way ahead and put it in another growth area, while we go into further debt mailing out $300 checks. They're not as concerned about joblessness, the interest on their residuals could support a handful of American families comfortably.

It's another short term band-aid. When we get the money it will either cover one month's mortgage payment or go to buying more stupid sh/t from China. If families are already in foreclosure, they are probably owing a few months payments, attorney's fees and whatever may be unpaid escrow. And the money is definitely borrowed, so you'll just pay it back in taxes and higher fuel prices as our dollar drops again. It's one good last kick in the nuts to the next prez as this administration leaves the White House.

Yeah, I know the market had this bump the last time we did it. I'm just worried that all we are really doing is extending our credit limit, with the promise to pay it back with interest. Too bad I wasn't liquid 6 mos ago, I'd be feeling alot better about it all.

The rebate is nothing more printing money and causing even further inflation and devaluing of the dollar. A low dollar is good for many businesses.

I still have my bottle of Champagne I've been saving since Bush was first elected. It should be real fine tasting when he and his chronies ride off into the sunset.

Nah, only Gloria Ferrer Brut which is what my wife likes. But 8 years older than when purchased. I am not a big champagne drinker. Too sweet and bubbly which disagrees with my disposition.

i'm a big fan of vintage champagne. the '96's are killer, but starting to lose some vibrance. They'll still drink well for years, but I tend to prefer my older bubbles to be younger. That doesn't really make sense does it? 6-10 years old is a good window.

'98 was ok, but seems to be characterized by higher acidity, which is less pleasing to me than the biscuit-type flavors and mineral notes. Perhaps a '00 is in order, since that's when the madness began.

The event might call for a good single malt as well. In any case I can definately see splurging a bit, this is as good a cause for celebration as any, and better than most.

What
In
THE
Fark?

Did I just read 'vibrance', 'acidity', and 'mineral notes' ?

The only thing I see missing is 'bouquet'.

My dad is a wine expert as a hobby and I spent my youth helping him make wines. We had deals with vinyards in eastern Washington and would pick what the pickers missed bringing back a one ton pickup load at a time. He even made quite a few cases of champagne around 1970. When it was new it was crap and 90% would end up on the ceiling. But 20+ years later he opened up a case and it was some of the best champagne Ive ever had. Myself I am partial to Bordeaux's but mostly drink good bourbon or scotch.
Even a bottle of T-bird will taste pretty sweet on that day.

Montelcino is an amazing town too. Did you check out La Fortezza? They were pouring Sassicaia and Ornellaia by the glass, as well as Antinori's Pian delle Vigne BdM. Pretty amazing. The 97's have entered their prime, and the 99's are pretty much there too.

For Italian wine it's hard to beat the Super's, and I'm a big Amarone fan as well.

I'll drink to that, dang, you guys are making me thirsty. I'm still stuck on reds, favor Caymus and drown in Opus if I can afford it. Whites, I generally stick to Grgich, the drier the better. Pretty easy to please, but the champagne was never friendly to me, I don't care if it was made by nuns in hills of france, I'll wake up with a headache that Satan himself wished he could have afflicted me with. But, if you guys do round up a going away party, I'll chip in some vino and promise to stop making an ass out of myself by 10:00 sharp. When I get home tonight I may have to bust open a bottle and wake up a little late, it's Friday anyways, nothing gets done on Fridays. Should we really wait another year for this party though??

I've had the Vignamaggio Mona Lisa. Not too shabby ;\) Sounds like you did it up right. Life's short, suck some marrow! Let me know next time you're in Forks KK, I'll raid the cellar.

He went to the bogie, didn't get anything. Sounds like he and the kid had a real nice day out though. He's threatening to head out on Sunday, asked if I wanted to go. I have to pass, doing tacos and beer at my place with a bunch friends. Maybe next week if the weather plays right and he thinks he can break away. Just left here, (he took a beating in crib ;-).

He's being smart and getting his licks in on softer water first
