It seems to have become the nutjob/tinfoil hat/fear mongering channel as of late.

Conspiracy Theories, Invasion from Outerspace, UFO's, and Disaster Scenarios. It comes off more as the front page of The Weekly World News than having anything to do with history.

I permanently changed the channel on them when they ran a program stating "many expert sources have proven that the 1918 influenza was a superbug from outerspace, possibly brought here on a comet or asteroid."

Looking at their website, they have now over 25 shows on UFO's and Space Aliens alone.
WTF?? UFO's?!?

Now a show on Global Warming. I thought this was the History Channel not the Weather Channel.

At last count I found 17 shows involving apocolypse or armageddeon in some way.

It seems to me the History Channel discovered it's demographic was elderly, conservative uneducated & senile nincompoops and decided to pander to them, instead of actually involve itself with History.

Okay Im done ranting now.

Irie! Didn't you get the memo? It's all just hype to promote the new X-Files movie due out in '08 or '09. ;\)

I cancelled our cable at home - too much crap on all the stations. And to add to your observation, it also resembles "The Military History Channel" the rest of the time. I wish they would have programming like the original James Burke series "Connections", but then again, that's just my nerd's dream of "quality" tv.

Sounds like you prefer the Christopher Columbus discovered America version of History. How can you be so certain that UFO's don't exist. Maybe enough people do feel that it's possible, that we are not the only life forms capable of exploring space. ;\) Polls have indicated that the majority of American's are open to the possibility that we are not alone. The government says that there's no such things as UFO's, so it must be true. Right! Pour another glass of that Koolaid.

I bet a number of those people watching are Airline Pilots, Polices Officers, military personnel, Astronauts, and other people from all walks of life, including a President of the United States. That's the face of the people that are witness to them. To consider the entire audience as a bunch of uneducated, senile, nincompoops, is self centered and closed minded in my opinion. But that's my opinion only. Your post convinces me that there has to be life that's more intelligent than us..

What was the last count you have for the number of stars out there? Maybe one of those stations that you clicked past the History Channel to get to, has solved all mysteries, as well as facts that show, we are the only intelligent beings in the Universe.

The weather man say's (UFO's) are clouds or swamp gas brought on by Katrina, end of the story. Right! Since most people never look up, because they are too busy, with the monkey business of the rat race, I don't expect them to notice the sky above them anyway. That is unless, it's a virtual sky projected against a blue screen for the Weather Channel.

BTW, it's hard to form a reliable opinion about the UFO subject, watching the weather channel.

Humility is a virtue.

I don't watch much tv, but started watching the History Channel in the last couple of months when Modern Marvels is on. The history of pig farming doesn't sound very cool, but I'll be damned if I didn't watch the whole thing.
They do have a lot of UFO and conspiracy stuff that I don't watch.

I watched shows on aluminum and steel, and I was completely entertained. THC (Sol, you should like the initials of The History Channel ;\) ) programming is cyclical, and suck sometimes, just like all other TV. Don't give up on it, as they might just have a week long focus on carbon, nitrogen, or distilleries. The show on whiskey was pretty good.

I've set the DVR to record all Tred Barta shows for entertainment, along with a few others for now. The DVR rocks, as you can pick the shows you want to watch, and then when nothing is on, just pull up a saved program and you are good to go.

THC is full of good shows.

There is some garbage, too, but that's why your TV has a remote.

I'll watch most anything....once. But to put the same show on over and over and over again is agravating. Especially when I'm paying to see a variety. Gee, the Summer Reruns are about to get going....cool. \:\(

What? Are you implying you don't believe God impregnated a young female virgin either Sol?

Which, if you think about it, means that Jesus was only half jewish!

This one sounds interesting: "Peyote to LSD: A Psychedelic Odyssey"

The show UFO hunters is a complete joke. "could this bent blade of grass be proof of an alien landing?". A show where they travel around and never find anything. Wow.

So that glow in the sky isn't really the sun behind a cloud-- it's really Bigfoot riding a Spaceship full of little green men? And bright flash is not really lightning-- it's some omnipotent being being very angry with me because I did it doggystyle with my wife instead of using the missionary position? Gee, I figured he'd have more important [censored] to worry about; And the simple fact that even at traveling at the --unattainable for matter--speed of light it would take longer than this planet has existed to reach the next-closest galaxy would sort of nullify any possibility of any life form paying a neighborly social call on any other. What was I thinking?

I'm sorry I doubted. Please forgive me.

It's really funny how some people actually believe that they know everything there is to know, or that will ever get discovered about each and every subject there is. That would include; all there is to know about life, the entire universe, gravity, other people's experiences,..... and on... and on ...and so on. Offering a smorgasbord of nonsense in order to deflect the possibility that some accounts of UFO phenomenon, could actually be plausible after considering all factors. One must factor in or consider, the number of witnesses, their professions, credibility, etc.
After all,,... the world is flat? .. Right! I'm sure the same rant was use against that stupid nincompoop, Galileo. That kind of thinking, would have us still running for cover whenever an eclipse occurred. I didn't suggest that I believed, or accepted as true, every program shown on the History channel, nor do I accept as fact, everything that's said on New's Channels. As other's have pointed out, there are some program shown on the History channel, that's actually better viewing, than anything else on the nearly 200 other channels available at that time. Most TV sucks! Period! If not for HD, I would probably only use my TV to watch Movie DVD"S, or documentaries and Torrents, stored on my hard drive.

I'm not emotionally needy, nor am I seeking herds approval of what I watch. I do'nt expect Kudo's or attaboys for not watching or watching a particular program. I'm comfortable in my own skin, and don't have to be a loud mouth about it. Nor, do I have to behave like the two guy's ( Dan ? & Dave ) from England, that were seeking acceptance, love, publicity, a good ego stroking, by lying and claiming that they made and were responsible for each and every Crop Circle anywhere in the World. The media gave them lots of love for helping to shape the opinions of many, regarding the subject. This kind of thing, permits us not to have to think on our own or do some research, while exercising the brain. Instead, we numb ourselves so we don't have to think, with shopping, get drunk, being obnoxious while feeling confident, that we know everything there is to know about everything. Why? Because loud mouth force feeds his opinons, and offers consternation of anyone that objects. I'm not that weak in the knees and don't drink Koolaid, hence my objections. I don't wear designer jeans, nor do I have to pretend that I'm all that. plus chips and dip, on a fishing board. ;\) I don't need a validation of my coolness, nor am I emotionally needy. I dont allow others to edit my TV guide, or chose the color of Toilet paper I use for flushing this thread. Grunt....fart.. grunt.......fart.............There!!! Finished! Ahhhhhhh
