I'll be fishing South Sound as a shake down for our Neah Bay trip later in the month. No problem with crowds here! Just not a lot of fish...

It'll be interesting to watch the amounts of people, that "hit the rivers", as the price of gas increases.
Went to Olympia on Friday, about 2 pm.......just for fun I started counting, trailers, camper, motorhomes......by the time we got to "I-5"...we had counted 118, headed west........maybe the last clam tide???? Maybe the 3 day weekend but that seemed like quite a few for us to count in a 45 minute drive.
Diesel......wow, $5.05 in Olympia.........
I'll be close to home, but I'll be there........I have a rock "with my name on it".......lol

Scouted the Sky on Saturday coming from the east side accross Steven's Pass and along the South Fork, Index and actually got out at High Bridge- water is high and powerful, too colored to fish. The water level is around 14,000 CFM which is about twice ideal from what I understand.
Went all over the Green on Sunday- from the headwork through all of the State Parks and it is completely shot! water is colorful and up in the trees! actually, the water has been closed by the Sherriffs department on account of safety.
Might be OK for plunking, but no drifting or spinning for a little while still.

Like troller I used to hit the Green every opening Day, I lived on it, Them were the Glory Days, long passed. This year I'll be going down to check to see if the toutle is fishable, If not, with all the high Water I think the elocoman might be a good hit. Every body have fun and be safe, with the high water it's not the time to take chances.

If you're on the Sky this Sunday, do it on the bank and you'll get treated to the sight of seeing sleds trying to sidedrift at 6 knots...anything over 10K cfs on the Sky is virtually impossible to fish from a boat, as all the fishable water is within about four feet of the bank, and the water is flying by outside of that.
Add to that that the Sky will more likely be flowing at 14,000 or 15,000 cfs on Sunday...finding a traveling lane near shore off the bank will be your best bet...sidedrifting will be spending a lot of gas money for not much fishing, I'd say.
Fish on...
Todd

I was also curious about the Eloc with the high water around here- thinking that it would clear out faster. But I have never been there in the summer since it gets so low... does it have much of a summer return? The 2006 WDFW smolt plants are pretty skimping looking- 34,000?

I stopped by the Wallace last Saturday to see what was happening, but at that time, they weren't allowing any fish into the trap. The upper end of the trap was open too, so they must have just dropped the gates in.
