Nothing wrong with carving pumpkins...I just think it's weird to have a membership in a society of pumpkin carvers.

Not sure why you are using the words "Membership" and "Society." I don't get where they are asking you to subscribe to a "membership" into a "society" of Pumpkin carvers. I thinks that's a bit of a stretch, don't you? However, there are links for pumpkin carving assistance, as well as local people and resources for those that want to get together and celebrate the holiday having fun, discussing politics, strategy, while creating some attractive and creative Jack-o-laterns in support of their candidate.
Not unusual at all for people to get together and carve pumpkins. My local Pike Place Market, Fremont as well as Wallingford areas offers families and individuals the opportunity to carve their own pumpkins...... with assistance, tools, pumpkins and the support of skilled pumpkin Carvers (artist) provided. The only difference is that most of these gatherings cater to the usual monster like creations,... while these are more about a statement of the individual carving as customary, a Halloween pumpkin, and in doing so trying to make a difference for their choice of presidential candidates.
