From The Aberdeen Daily World:
The Grays Harbor Drug Task Force arrested two campground caretakers Monday while seizing drugs and cash from their home northwest of Montesano.
Undersheriff Rick Scott said a 53-year-old woman and her 55-year-old husband who supervised campsites at the Wynoochee Wildwood Park on Geissier Road were allegedly selling methamphetamine out of the park.
“Detectives had been making controlled (drug) purchases,” he said, noting the investigation had been developing for a while.
The couple lived at the campgrounds as caretakers, he said. They were both arrested Monday.
Scott said deputies found about an ounce of methamphetamine, a highly addictive stimulant, worth about $1,500 to $1,700. They also seized $1,400 in cash, a 12-gauge shotgun and suspected stolen property.
The couple was booked into the County Jail for alleged possession of methamphetamine. Scott said the woman’s felony history may result in a charge for unlawful possession of the shotgun. Investigators also found a video camera set up to watch anyone coming or going from the park, Scott said. Park owners told detectives the video surveillance was not a regular part of park security.
“They were watching for cops,” he said.
The arrests may also reduce issues of vandalism and theft that have plagued the park, Scott said. Deputies hope it will have a positive effect on the grounds beyond simply decreasing access to the drug.
