Just to let you know the Dead are going on tour this spring, and have added a date at the Gorge in Quincy on 5/16/09. Not looking for it to be the same without Jerry, but good none the less. Tickets for this show go on sale on 2/17/09, I already got mine gotta love conections. Matt

Ahhhh, young grass hopper. There are ways to get in for free as well if ya know where to look. I quit counting Dead shows after 20 something. The last show I saw was at Memorial stadium. Jerry was way off that night and I sold the tickets I had for the remainder of the West coast tour schedule. He died not much later in the tour. "Thank You" Jerry for some real good times, and thanks Gilly for the "Heads" up -TBJ

Were you counting saved tickets to get to 20? I only remember a few I am gonna remember this one, It is Dead evolution to be able to listen without drugs. Matt

I confess that I was a bit of a Dead Head. We always hit the Eugene show every year. Was always an epic road trip. Driving through eastern Oregon was always an adventure.. good times man.. real good times.
I don't think I would want to go to a Dead show now. No Jerry.. no Gratefull Dead. I think of it as one of those things that I would expect a lot out of and it would not be the same. Like your first bicycle or piece of trim

Yeah The Dead will be there. But, Allman Bros and Doobie Bros too! Whoa what a party.
I hope they announce the North Coast Halibut opener soon...Decisions, decisions.

That's right...they're all dead. Duane Allman,Jerry Garcia. WTF??? What happened to the days when we had good fresh new acts to spend our money to go see? This depresses me.

The last show I saw was at Memorial stadium. Jerry was way off that night Yeah he was off.. I remember scoring drugs from those greasy hippies and their patchouli oil and blasting Slayer from my vehicle in the parking lot, tripping on psychedelics and sucking down nitrous baloons. I actually like them more now than I did, especially the earlier [censored] with pigpen.

The Dead are timeless, such a vast aray of music. I dont know many musicians who would not put Jerry in the top ten of influences. The Dead without him will be different, yet they all played together for so long you can hear Jerry in all the remaining members. I just was at the David Grisman Quintet at Jazz Alley, they did all the Dawg tunes as well as Grateful Dawg, Arabia, and Sativa, absolutely amazing. Jerry's tones and chord voicings will never be duplicated, yet like I said above his friends and bandmates carry alot of his sound and feel.

Probably should go ... don't you need to go every 30 years or so?
First concert I ever went to ... something around October of '79 in the memorial Coliseum in Portland. For a sheltered young pup, it was a real eye opener!

Thats the spirit Bob !!! It has been around 16 yrs for me. Dont forget the tickets go on sale Tuesday morning. The response for this tour has been very good, and would expect them to go quick.

Matt

AVID - Yeah, pretty depressing nowadays with time and hard livin catching up to all our heroes. Who's next? Neil? Mick? BUT - it's NOT without hope! This old deadhead just went and seen a couple shows that were actually pretty entertaining... DISTURBED (with a reggae-punk-metal opening band called SKINDRED) and AVENGED SEVENFOLD with PAPA ROACH and BUCKCHERRY.... bands I didn't think I'd like (took my kids), but I did. Certainly not up to historical icon-ism (yet) like the DEAD and JERRY, but I was pleasantly surprised !
I am passing on YES and DAVID BYRNE this week but you can bet I'll be out at the Gorge for the DEAD. It's a "family" event I wouldn't miss.
