I'll take David Gilmour over EC any day of the week, seeing as how he's never been an alcoholic, heroin addict, wife stealing, piss-poor-father that let his child fall out a penthouse window to his death. I'm just sayin' wink

i was going to mention chet, but someone beat me to it.

how about mark knopfler?

zakk wylde is a hell of a guitarist, but i don't really care for his band so much. saw a video of him playing some bluesy stuff, too bad you don't hear much of that out of him.

Eric Clapton is the most OVERRATED guy EVER to even pick up a guitar IMO! evil

Guess who Eric Clapton's favorite guitarist is though?

Yep... Eric Johnson! thumbs

There's a million good rock guitarists out there... and I like 'em all!

Guys like Angus Young and David Gilmour are great because event though they may not be technically that proficient... you can recognize their playing after just a few notes.

Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen were innovators... and took the art of rock guitar playing in completely new directions.

Darrel Abbot, Zakk Wylde, George Lynch etc... I consider to be excellent, distinctive players... but not quite up to the virtuoso level of an Yngwie Malmsteen or Steve Vai for example.

Then when you get into different genre's of music like country, jazz, fusion etc... there's a whole 'nother group of virtuoso players... most of whom you've probably never even heard of.

Like I said... I pretty much like it all... and I remember as a kid pretendin' to play along with Ace Frehley's solo on Kiss Alive II... thinkin' that was the [censored]!

I listed those guys in no particular order Dan. Just a few of my favorites. And I omitted the real metal guys otherwise James Hetfield and Dime would be up there as well as Glenn Tipton, and [censored] the list could go on.
