April 15.

For you and me, it's the deadline for filing our tax returns.

But for many of America's biggest and most well-known corporations, it's just another day at the beach.

That's because while you and I pay our fair share, these multi-billion dollar corporations have set up off-shore "headquarters" in places like the Cayman Islands to dodge their tax obligations.

While the rest of us struggle to do our part, and America looks for ways to fund urgent priorities -- including education, health care, modern infrastructure and middle class tax relief -- it's unacceptable that even one company skips out on paying its taxes.

But it's a lot more than just one company.
!
In fact, only one of the ten companies listed below has NOT set up offshore accounts to avoid their taxes. Click here to find out which one.

https://www.washpirg.org/action/tax-budget/tax-dodge

AIG * American Express * Bank of America * Comcast * Coca-Cola * Dell * Exxon-Mobil * Home Depot * Pepsi * Pfizer

President Obama has proposed a budget that closes the loopholes that allow corporations to set up off-shore tax havens.

But lobbyists for many of these powerful interests are lining up to make sure they keep these loopholes intact. Congress is preparing to debate the president's budget right now

If you don't threaten to close loopholes you may not get the big donations.

Speaking of tripling the nat'l debt, Hakster, how much did The GOP with Bush at the Helm increase the nat'l debt?

This entire mess is Republican's fault. Why anyone would listen to any more of their idiotic hair brained ideas is beyond me. You must be one of the three people that was screaming "Four More Years!" while the Republicans were ridden out of town on a rail.

you might be on to something there but you'll never bother yourself to look into it.

both the left and the right in Washington have handed the banking and banking insurance industries a giant can of vaseline and bent over for their banker masters...

....haven't they?

Your anger is misdirected....the fact is that Washington no longer represents the people, left or right, and this is something nearly all of us can agree upon.

If people would stop focusing on how f'd up the other side is and start focusing on how f'd up their own side is they just might realize that THE WHOLE THING IS F'D UP...voila, new paradigm.

No new paradigm, no change....ever.

Hank, ya'll got your BART. The early investment of the 70's has saved your collective Bay Area butts.

Seattle coulda, shoulda, woulda done it decades ago, but nooooo...

Any investment in mass transportation is better than NO investment. Just the projected growth should tell a person something. Try putting 20% more cars on the current capacity roads and see what you get.

Lack of adequate transportation is in the top 3 reasons companies won't stay/come here. We've allowed rail to fall by the wayside in our country for one reason... to create truck driving jobs after WWII.

DUMB IDEA!

Aunty-

You touch on so many subjects here:

Don't you have that cute little monorail thingy in Seattle? rofl

During the '50's GM bought up many municipal/public transportation systems so that people would need to buy a car.

I once heard our railroad "system" described as not on par with Bulgaria's railways.

Europe chose to tax gasoline at an extremely high rate to help subsidize public transportation after world war II and they have a fantastic rail system. If we did that here though, we'd be socialists, and god forbid we should create infrastructure lest someone call us a bad name wink

Hankster, just because you don't use it, in that little tiny universe you live in, doesnt mean tens of thousands of Americans don't use AMTRAK every day.
You are really good at telling people what they need.

Try this... some Sunday night, shut down that bureaucratic boondoggle and see what happens Monday morning. I promise you, you'll be pleading for it to be back in service ASAP.

It's funny how the federal government can actually run a military that is the best in the world and few complain about how our government keeps screwing THAT up. Also, I rarely hear anyone complain about their fire departments being incompetant. There are many more examples of government run functions in our daily lives that people rarely think to criticize.

im sure you will be happy with the fire department as long as they keep issuing their calanders rofl

Oh how have I offended thee? rofl If I had a point, it was that Europe made a different choice after WWII and it turned out pretty well for them. Don't make me take the bus up there to kick your ass - I much prefer the beer option (and fresh shrimp hint, hint) grin

Aunty,
I will complain about the fire department for you. They are over paid, whining, people who are worshipped like hero's for doing a job. One that is probably the best one I know of. Look at their benefit package. Then ask yourself when the last one you know of was killed in the line of duty? When was the last Taxi driver killed? Are taxi drivers hero's for putting themselves are risk of 1/10th of the pay? I do admire what the fire department does, but I also realize that it is just a job. I wish the public realized that. Yeah, I know, I am just jealous. But do I hate it when someone who gets to work 2 days a week, makes more money then I do, has better benefits, goes around acting as if he is a public servant that is giving to the community and everyone around bows down to them.

Yep Definitely jealous....

Fed-Ex and UPS ?

They're parcel services, not postal services. What's the cheapest you can get something into the Fed-Ex or UPS systems? About 4 bucks. That's a damn sight more than 42 cents.

The USPS could improve, there's no question about that. The fact that it takes an act of Congress to get some shitbird postal worker fired is a large part of it, but the system itself operates pretty well as a whole.

The problem with letting capitalism handle every need is that capitalism doesn't give a sh!t if you can't mail a letter for 42 cents. Capitalism doesn't care if you live all the way out in the sticks..........if it's not ccost-effective to deliver you a letter, then you don't get the letter. How simple.

The USPS and Amtrak fill a need for the people. If you want to save some dough, end some bullsh!t program like The Farm Bill. A useless program that serves no purpose and benefits agribusiness, not family farmers.

In the big picture, it's better than printing more so that we can give it to billionaires with farms.

Does a billionaire need a subsidy?

Then why does that happen, and why did the POS reps who passed a bill that allows billionaires to collect subsidies not lose their jobs?

Because we suck at voting, Hank.

Jumping in a bit late but look what we've done in Washington in regards to light rail transit. Our first mission is a line from downtown to the airport which will prove over time to move ZERO vehicles from the road. Cost billions. Etc. The EIS states this in regards to the light rail line. NO decrease in congestion.

The monorail from Ballard to West Seattle was a joke from the start. No parking planned in already congested neighborhoods where homeowners park on the street. The West Seattle bridge wasn't even designed for the extra weight/rail line. You can take ONE bus from Ballard to West Seattle without spending billions for whatever type of convenience you perceive that type of service to be.

Our mayor thought it was a good idea to build his own SLUT which moves next to zero people yet causes and has caused massive traffic congestion just so we can all feel so good about our "progress." Give me a f'n break.

If they were going to do it they'd have run the rail down the middle of the freeway from Marysville to Oly and had bus line spurs taking people out to the suburbs.

Any of you ride thru Kent Station? Not somewhere I'd want to hang out waiting for a train due to the quality of people making their transactions within site of KC Metro officials and Sheriff cars. Not to mention that I wouldn't allow a spouse to ride from that station.
