PETA asks vets visiting Seattle not to throw fish THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
SEATTLE -- PETA has taken a stand against one of the most popular tourist attractions in Seattle - the fish market at the Pike Place Market that tosses salmon.
PETA heard that the American Veterinary Medical Association planned a Pike Place Fish Market demonstration at next month's convention at the convention center.
PETA sent a letter to the association saying people who care about animals are appalled fish would be treated as toys. A spokeswoman for PETA in Norfolk, Va., Lindsay Rajt, says veterinarians should show compassion.
PETA hasn't heard from the veterinarians.
An assistant manager at the Pike Place Fish Market, Justin Hall, says workers there respect fish because it's their livelihood and they take pride in having the best seafood.

If folks would keep their noses out of everyone elses business America would be a far better place.
Freakin' PETA people, as a rule, are a bunch of snivelin' greenie worms that are so screwed up they can't even manage their own lives...and they think they have some madate from God to tell US what we should do?
The fish market bought the fish, the fish are DEAD...so really, who in their right mind would give a rats arse if they want to grind 'em up or toss them around like footballs?
I say this again: "Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."
Beam me up Scotty...no intelligent life forms here....

Living things bruise, once the heart is stopped it cannot be bruised. ...but I'm sure they still get "tenderized" with all the tossing. They're mostly tourists anyways. You could probably give them an October pink salmon that's been knocked around like a volleyball, charge them $20 a pound and they'd still think it was the greatest fish in the world...just because they bought salmon at Pikes.

Do they sell the ones they throw? Or do they keep a few fish a side each day and just throw those back and forth?

Never ate one but yes they sell the fish they throw. My big question would be who gives a crap what they do with the fish. If the people who buy them dont care and want to see it, who gives anyone the right to say otherwise. And if anyone here besides myself ever worked or even watched fish get cut in a cutting house, they get throw around plenty in the cleaning process. You dump a tote out on a table, start grabbing, flipping, cutting, sliding, tossing to the next guy. At least as much as one toss from some guy and caught by another. More people sticking their nose in other business. What esle do we expect from PETA.
