The North Sound Chapter of CCA will be hosting its General Members Meeting from 6PM to 8PM Wednesday, 9 September at the new Holiday Sports location in Burlington, (895 Nevitt Road, just behind the former store).

We will feature two speakers: Aaron Bosworth, WDFW Region 4 Fisheries Manager, speaking on Hatchery Reform and Heath Heikkila, CCA Pacific Northwest Fisheries Manager, speaking on the 10-year Puget Sound Chinook Management Harvest Plan along with many other topics.

We welcome new and returning members who are interested in helping to conserve, promote and enhance the present and future availability of coastal resources for the enjoyment of all fisherman.

Pizza and beverages will be available for a nominal charge along with some exciting raffle items.

An additional raffle has been added for the nights meeting. Entry into that raffle will be one ticket to the CCA member who brings a new, non-CCA member to the meeting. You and your guest will have to argue over who gets the prize if you win!

The Commission meets this weekend to possibly vote on hatchery reform. Tomorrow night's meeing should be extremely informative. Please plan on attending to listen to Aaron Bosworth of WDFW discuss hatchery reform and CCA Pacific Northwest's Fishing Director Heith Heikkila provide further insight and analysis.

Rockfish Conservation Plan

CCA Washington supports efforts to preserve and restore rockfish in Puget Sound and in general terms, supports the need for a Rockfish Conservation Plan. However, CCA Washington has many questions and concerns with the proposed plan and encourages members to attend the upcoming public meetings to ask questions and comment on the proposal.

CCA Washington most recently asked for an extension for public comment and for the WDFW to hold additional meetings. I had requested a meeting to be held in Skagit county so North Sound members can participate. That meeting was granted and will be held on December 3, from 7-9:00pm in Angst Hall at Skagit Valley College’s Mount Vernon Campus, 2405 East College Way, Mount Vernon. It is extremely important that we have a large number of concerned members attend this meeting. Not only is the rockfish plan important, but it is directly linked to the Puget Sound Chinook Harvest Management Plan and will have direct affects on salmon fishing in Puget Sound.


December Membership Meeting

On Wednesday, December 9th, we will have our general membership meeting in Bellingham at 4350 Cordata Parkway from 7:00 - 9:00pm. The guest speaker will be Steven Thiesfeld, WDFW Puget Sound Salmon Manger. Steve will be providing us with a review of how we got to where we are today in salmon management, including court decisions, ESA listings, commission policy, the North of Falcon process and which stocks we manage with in-season updates and how those updates are made. He will also talk about outlook for salmon, the rockfish ESA listing and how the rockfish plan will affect salmon fisheries.

I encourage everyone to try and bring someone new and let them know about the meetings. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
