40% of all child disappearances happen to children walking to and from school!

73% of all statistics are made up.

And according to NISMART, there are nearly 1000 "Parental" kidnappings PER DAY, 500 of which involve concealment... Again, that's PER DAY.

So it's very likely that if there were a kidnapping of your child, it's vastly more likely that you or your spouse are to blame, than a mysterious stranger who spies your kid on the way to/from school.

I'm just saying.

Statistically, In America, children are sexually assaulted more at Sunday School by a close family acquaintance than any other place.

I guess that explains The Christian Right and their emphasis on 'Family Values.'

No schit!

Parents won't let their kids play in their own front yards these days.
One of our neighbours won't let their daughter out of their sight, literally. And She's 7. She's the little neighbourhood shut-in. The only outdoors she sees is her backyard, and only then if her Mommy is out there watching over her.
At that age I was running loose in the woods with a pellet rifle and a dog.

Jerry, Irie has no source he is just flappin his gums AGAIN!

It's a sad thing that kids need to be in a parents eyesight at all times nowadays. I have ten acres that is fully fenced with cameras at the entry gate and I still dont let my kids out of eyesight for to long.

bwp, It has nothing to do with control freak parents it has everything to do with the way the world is nowadays.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

The world has always been that way.

Ask John Gacy.

The difference is that now you hear about every case.

+100

I firmly believe that most of the paranoia out there is fueled by the information age, and how much more people are inundated with bad news these days.
It's not entirely true that there are more sexual predators, murderers, serial killers, rapists, etc out there these days. We just hear about it much more often due to the efficiency of the news mediums. Here in the NW, 10 years ago you'd rarely hear about an child abduction in Arkansas. Now it's on CNN/Nancy Grace in 30 minutes.

I don't have a source, but I recall hearing a few years back that these days there is now far less crime than 20-30 years ago when I grew up.

Damn Skippy.

As a kid I was chased into the Restroom at Yard Birds by some weird old guy who had followed me all through the store. He had me cornered, but took off when two guys came in behind him. That was in the late 70's-early 80's.

Back then, they didn't keep track of those 'dirty old men' (or women). They were just the 'guy in a trench coat' they told you to avoid. They also, in those days, told you to do whatever your Preacher, Sunday School Teacher or a Cop told you to do, no matter what.
It wasn't until the internet & sex offender registration (and the magnitude of Catholic Church Scandal) that people began to get an idea of how prevalent and dangerous those psychos really are.
