here we go again...

i've never done dope in my life. i'm thinking that superfly made a great point. between the tokers and methheads the methheads are 10 times worse. stoners have never stole guard rails to get more pot. methheads literally make stoners look very ordinary people.

Don't get me wrong. I fully support our police and understand they have to enforce the laws. I worked for years in a job where I enforced regulations, many of which I disagreed with.

But . . If we legalized this proven benign product, we eliminate the profits for the drug cartels, we get the scum out of our parks and national, forests, and we eliminate the trash, pollution and violence. And we generate significant tax revenue we can use to improve our prison and parole system, which so obviously need beefed up!

This is a no brainer to me.

In the 35 years I spent as an EMT there was not one fatality incident that I responded to that did not have drugs or alcohol involved. Message, if you are going to do drugs or alcohol don't drive. Yes marijuana use was a key factor in some of these accidents. I'm sure if you ask one of these people that caused or lived through the incident they would probably tell you that they would choose not to use any drugs or alcohol prior to or when driving.

Again thanks Tyee for your efforts to keep us safe by taking these scumbags off the streets. My loved ones are safer for it.

Just my .02 worth!

Keep hating on the police\law enforcement you need to think what that led to. God Bless our police and law enforcement and keep doing your job. Great job and keep up the good work.

I agree that meth is worse than weed and the users are polar opposites. But Tyee just got lucky on the traffic stop I'm sure he would have made the same bust if those guys were carrying meth instead of weed. It was the traffic stop that lead to the evidence of crime. I'm sure if any ilegal activity was present Tyee would have made a bust.

As far as legalizing weed most of the arguments are good ones except for taking the money away from drug cartels. Drug cartels are addicted to money and they wont take a loss very easily. I would expect them to cover this loss by increasing the amount of other, more serious, more addictive, drugs (i.e. meth). Nobody wants more meth on the streets.

Tyee,

I understand that the law is the law, so good on ya' for doing your job. However, a mixed response is about as good as you can expect when the specific law you're enforcing is a wrongminded one. It's wrongminded because the evidence shows pot is relatively harmless, and orders of magnitude less harmful than alcohol and tobacco, which are both legal. The problem with pot in society is that making a relatively harmless product illegal has created a drug trade and business that is far more dangerous to society than the pot itself.

As for the pollution, there's no denying that pot farming causes some harm, but it's miniscule compared to the socially and legally approved pollution from the vast forms of agribusiness in CA and most all states.

So a little blowback from members here is natural and logical. We prefer to have our LE tax dollars spent working on the crimes that actually harm society. And maybe it's a bit disproportionate, but man, we're really fed up and wanting to kill for property crimes because we're so tired of the epidemic breakins of homes, outbuildings, and vehicles. Yet when the sheriff's deputy finally arrives, he takes the report, says hope we have good insurance, and don't expect to ever get our stuff back, and oh, there's nothing we can do about it, can't shoot perps, just call LE, who won't and cannot arrive until long after the perps leave, etc. I'm sure you know the drill. The upshot is that we citizens don't care if people want to grow and sell and use pot; we just want ne'er do wells to leave us and our property alone. And we want to shoot their sorry asses if they don't.

Pot harmless???

I had a guy that was smoking pot and turned on the barbeque on the deck of an apartment building before going to bed. I guess he had the munchies. Cost the lives of four neighbor kids in the building 3 hours later because he was too stoned to turn it off.

I don't know about you but I'd hate to live with that, after all he was only doing a little wrongdoing that was relatively harmless.

I enjoy your posts Salmo but I think you may be a little sideways here.

Respectfully submitted,

Captain

Funny schizzle there Jack, and by the way dipschitt whoever you are, no one is hating on the cops here they are just speaking there minds which happens to be about 98 % true on the facts of weed and the users.
My once high and powerful high dollar Lawyer was a stoner and considered the best of the best in his type of practice. He consistently won these kind of cases, like all day long. He like the rest of us hated the hard drug trade and the people that were involved in it which is basically the soft under belly of society. So get a grip.
I say for the people of L.E. you have a hard thankless job and most of you are good hard working people, but what we all want to see is you guys go after the real badasses, not a bunch of working class potheads !!
Impress us, go get a few labs or a large tar herion dealer or a meth dealer who has been trading meth for stolen property. We want to hear about those kind of bust. Now go make it happen.

Thanks
Peace

Looks to me like that is a good bust.

Sometimes people are unaware of the true cost of the end product.

Captain,

Yes, harmless, relatively. Drinking too much water is dangerous too. So if your example guy had been legally drunk out of his mind when he turned on the BBQ that started the fire it would have lessened the tragedy?

I didn't say pot is completely and entirely harmless. It's typically smoked, so it couldn't be entirely harmless. But compared to all the legal things we can take and do, yes, pot is incredibly harmless in the comparison. Pot doesn't cause lung cancer or heart disease, and while sometimes people do dumb things when stoned, people do dumb things for a lot of other reasons as well. To date there is no law against stupidity in the US.

The body of evidence on pot overwhelmingly indicates that the laws against it are way overkill compared to the effects of the product. More people get in car accidents from falling asleep at the wheel than from driving stoned, not that I'm recommending or condoning either.

As long as it's illegal, it's hard to complain too much about a cop doing his job and making the bust.

That being said, the vast majority of "bad things" that flow from illegal pot growing are directly attributed to it being illegal, not because it's pot.

If it wasn't illegal, then virtually every problem with it would go away.

Pretty much the reason that it's illegal...is that it's illegal.

Fish on...

Todd
