"Ok, let's post all ear-marked funds on a public website." and "Let's post all contacts that lobbyist's make, and strictly control how much they give in gratuities." (all paraphrased) :cough: Anybody buying that? He speaks real purdy, don't he? There will be lots of analysis of this speech, but it will surprise the Hell out of me, if much content comes to fruition. OTOH.....if I am amazed....it would be soooooo good.

What do you all think about a sitting president criticizing the Supreme Court of US in a joint session of congress?? That has to be one of the most inappropriate and distasteful things I have seen in politics.

Hank, Stretch cant make that smile diappear. To much botox....Kinda like the joker.
Seemed like he had a laundry list to me. One thing checked off after another. Sure to touch all the "key" words that would get a good response from the public. Seemed like he had a very big ego in this speach as well. A whole lot of "I" and "me" moments.
Some just off the wall stuff to become a populist as well. One of the more funny ones are the 10% of income for student loans.....great idea but how are we going to pay for that. If done, banks would stop loaning money to students for student loans. And besides, they have programs now that you can pay back these amounts any number of different ways from putting off to teired to interest only to ect...... And what, we pay for them forever or I forgot, they will be forgiven after 10 to twenty years......when he is no longer president. That wont be cheap and thus will never happen. But populist just the same and got the best marks of the speach, true or not.
As much as I like him and will still give him the benefit, the constant campaign and some of these ideas are making it tougher. I will give him one more year before I give up on him though. Go BO. Still pullin for ya to get us out of this mess.

I thought it was good as far as state of the unions go and had some added humility as well. A far cry from the whiney podium monkey and his evil organ grinder of the last eight years.

Can one of you conservatives name ONE thing the Obama administration has done that goes AGAINST GOP policy?
I mean BESIDES being and nominating minorities to cabinet? Treating terrorist's like U.S citizens for starters.

If done, banks would stop loaning money to students for student loans.
That's not necessarily a bad thing. Private student loans were pretty free flowing in my college days and there really wasn't anything in place to insure they were really spent on education. Princess, His education reform is not directed towards everyone. Last week when he announced the program he said this is to help minorities.
I'm not disputing that you may be right, but could you site your source? I about spit up the wine I was drinking when the Gov giving the Republican rebuttal slammed "deficit spending." So deficit spending for eight years under Republican Bush was good, and Cheny said deficits don't count any more, but one year so far of deficit spending under Obama in response to the second greatest financial crisis the country has known is somehow unacceptable. Sure is funny how some Republicans think.
Sg It's as if they expect their mess to be cleaned up over night...

I have never really been an Obama supporter.
He is an amazing speaker and knows how to rally a reaction. It was actually fun to watch and I enjoyed the digs he put in. It was pretty impressive to hear him demand the bills be on his desk by a certain date. Wielding the authority.
If he can stick to his guns the man could accomplish some great things for our country.

Irie, just a question and a comment for you ..... since when does an enemy combatant ( Even President Obama has said we are at "war" with Al-Queda) have ANY constitutional rights let alone the right to due process?
And as far as your comment about President Bush not having minorities in his administration, he did in fact have the first black secretary of state (Colin Powell) and the first female (who also happened to be black) secretary of state in Condeleeza Rice. Alberto Gonzalez was also the first minority to be Attorney General. Before Bush took office, no minority had EVER (not even in the Clinton Admin.) occupied any of the four highest-profile Cabinet positions -- attorney general and the secretaries of the Defense, State and Treasury departments.

Grave Breaches (of the Geneva Conventions) Not all violations of the treaty are treated equally. The most serious crimes are termed grave breaches, and provide a legal definition of a war crime. Grave breaches of the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions include the following acts if committed against a person protected by the convention:
willful killing, torture or inhuman treatment, including biological experiments willfully causing great suffering or serious injury to body or health compelling one to serve in the forces of a hostile power willfully depriving one of the right to a fair trial. (BINGO) Also considered grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention are the following:
taking of hostages extensive destruction and appropriation of property not justified by military necessity and carried out unlawfully and wantonly unlawful deportation, transfer, or confinement.[8] Nations who are party to these treaties must enact and enforce legislation penalizing any of these crimes.[9] Nations are also obligated to search for persons alleged to commit these crimes, or ordered them to be committed, and to bring them to trial regardless of their nationality and regardless of the place where the crimes took place.
The principle of universal jurisdiction also applies to the enforcement of grave breaches. Toward this end, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia were established by the United Nations to prosecute alleged violations.

Grave Breaches (of the Geneva Conventions) Grave breaches of the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions include the following acts if committed against a person protected by the convention: That would be for persons wearing a uniform of their army! Enemy combatants are considered no different, as far as the Geneva convention is concerned, as a spy. Most spies, when caught, are shot on site during times of war. Do you suggest we put foreign spies thru domestic courts?

When Thomas Jefferson sent the US Marine Corps after the Barbary Pirates did we bring them to US shores so they could go to a lower Manhatten Court or did they kill the sons a bitches!
I'm not necessarily anti liberal (I agree with some domestic policies) but the average liberals understanding of history is a freaking joke!!!!!

"Enemy combatants are considered no different, as far as the Geneva convention is concerned, as a spy."
You need a court of law to determine which label to give them not some politician who chooses the most convenient label which was specifically in order to skirt the Geneva Convention.
Even spies have their day in court.

Don't you ever go fishing? All I see are your posts all over this forum spewing your amazing fishing "knowledge." I need not even ask that question -- I already know the answer... you aren't fishing because you live in San Francisco. Typical Californian... Don't you have anything better to do than frequent a FISHING forum?

What's your definition of a typical Californian? By most standards I'm pretty atypical. When I'm not fishing or working I generally like to get on this FISHING forum so that I can annoy dimbulbs such as yourself. Looks as though I've been successful this trip. Thanks for stopping by.... This pathetic reply only further solidifies my assumption that you don't actually fish. When you learn how to catch salmon and steelhead you should come back and share the experience. Sorry, I shouldn't have said "typical Californian." I should have just said "Californian." 'Nuff said.

Tell you what. Next time you're down here, stop by and I'll show you how to tie some knots and maybe give you some pointers on how to fish. Don't know how that will help you though. I'm pretty certain the "I" on your avatar is for Ignorant. 'Nuff said.... I'll never go to California. My state is so inundated with them I wouldn't need to. Why would I want you to teach me how to tie knots? That's the lamest thing I've ever heard, and a bad excuse to show that you're a "fisherman." Also, how could the I in my avatar stand for ignorant? It stands for Idaho -- the Idaho Vandals, my alma mater. But you wouldn't know anything about college judging by your atrocious spelling.

Also, how could the I in my avatar stand for ignorant? Just a lucky guess I suppose... As for you not coming down here to California, I can speak for all Californians when I say: "Whew"... And let me be the first from all in the PNW that you aren't welcome here . We're at capacity with Kalifornians. One more will burst us at the seam.

Well feel free to use any interstate in ID, just don't leave the rest stops. If you have to buy gas, please do so in a timely manner and don't go on any state highways. You might also want to cover up your california plates or put some fake ID plates on.
That settles it. Ever fish the Snake? Watch for me and if you see me, come on over and I'll give you some fisnin' tips. Knot tyin' lessons too because all the fishin' tips in the world won't help you if your hook keeps fallin' off.... Thats pretty "Intuitive" of ya Hank Every time Hankster posts something you make a quick follow-up with a smart comment, except not as well thought-out as Hank. You two aren't in cahoots with each other are you... like in the illegal way?

I think he went home.
Just in time too because he was starting to sound a little puny. Sorry I didn't stay around, old man. I had things to do besides arguing with Californians and their junior sidekicks. I just have to ask, how do you sound puny?

Your rebuttals were getting weak. It sounded like you were up past your bedtime.... Actually I was past my bedtime. I'm on eastern time right now. I was surprised to see you up past 7:00. Aren't you like 70?
