Pantera opening for Skid Row. That's like Motorhead opening for Winger. Gotta agree. But ya gotta start somewhere, It was their first big tour.

Saw one of the early Springsteen/Born in the USA shows -- before they'd bumped up to stadiums and it was awesome.

Lots of shows at Filmore West and Winterland in the late 60's. But can you remember any of them Jerry I remember bits and pieces of some of the concerts.

The first Lollapalooza was pretty excellent...Jane's Addiction, Ice-T and Body Count, The Violent Femmes, Siouxsie and the Banshees, FishBone...several more that I can't remember off the top of my head.
Dancing around in the mud and pouring down rain at the fair grounds in Puyallup...pretty much ruint that place, and I don't think they've ever had another concert there since.
I think that was 1991?
Fish on...

Queensryche back in....er....late 80's.
New Years Eve and they played in what is now Key Arena. Played all of Operation Mind Crime, did some New Year's Eve Toasts, drank some champagne, then they played all of Empire. They were all playing tight that night and was the best acoustic sound concerts I've ever been too.
Worst was any of the VanHagar concerts I've been too. They suck in concert. Great action, but sound like crap.
Of course I'm a HUGE Rush fan, but last year's Rush concert at the Gorge blew! Literally! High winds made for a *truly* crappy concert and you could tell that the band did not want to be playing there that evening.

Seen Qheenryche a couple of times and the are always tight. Best sounding live band out there. Last time I saw them they where recording a vidio at the Pheonix Underground. Envite only. It was awesome!

How about the best band I never got to see............... I worked with an old guy from Chicago who only moved to Seattle a few months earlier. He kept trying to talk me into going and seeing this band at a downtown club. I figured he didn't know what the hell he was talking about so I blatently ignored him. After a month or so of this guy hounding me I finally called a friend of mine who worked sound for a lot of bands and was into that "grunge" seen. He informed me that yes they are a great band but the lead singer died the night before I never did see Mother Lovebone live. Still one of my favorite CD's

Deftones, anywhere they have played, are a contender, but Pantera always takes the cake. Some of the early Pearl Jam shows were the shite too.

Think it was 1993 when AC/DC came to the T-dome and a couple weeks later Ozzy played at the Coliseum in Seattle and I had tickets to both. I was pretty excited to see AC/DC but not so much about Ozzy, The AC/DC concert bored the hell out of me and I was very disappointed, Ozzy was excellent, right up there with all the Rush concerts I've been too.

Although not a concert, however, the first Sky River Rock Festival and Lighter Than Air Fair in 1968 was the first big gig I went to when I came back from the Navy. Wow..... Poster here: http://skyriverlives.com/wlt122.jpg

I saw Deftones when they opened for SlipKnot this year, wasn't impressed. Slipknot though was awesome. Saw Korn at the Roseland in 95, thought that was good. Biggest suprise show was Nickelback, went in to see three days grace and breaking benjamin (opening acts), and I'll be damned if Nickleback didn't kick ass.

and I'll be damned if Nickleback didn't kick ass. dammit! don't get AuntyM started on "hanging" Chad Kroeger! strangely, for all the shows i've seen, Blue Oyster Cult in '95 was the best - small club, dinner show! it was when all the 'old timers' started hitting the club/indian casino circuit. just some lights to go with the songs and those guys kicked serious ass. it seems that all the pre-MTV bands (priest, scorps, original van halen, cheap trick, kiss, etc.) had more stage presence and showmanship, as well as just fvcking rockin!

For pure showmanship and quality of live music, Meatloaf at the Gorge in 1994 or 1995. Very entertaining, and good clearly auduble music that wasn't overblown by some a-hole who wanted to turn the amps up to 11. Cheap Trick opened (one of the 5 or 6 times they opened for some band I saw) and they were spot on as well.
Tickets were free from Seafrist Bank, since I was an employee and my job was to hand out free foam frisbees before the concert at teh mobile ATM. We got unlimited free food and booze in one of the hospitality Yurts, along with free parking. Even got paid mileage.
Sat in the front row at a Rush concert in Seattle in 1985 or 1986, which was a great time, row 1, seat 2B. Roommate sat in line for 3 days to get those 8 tickets while we brought him food. 8 tickets, all front row, old school style.
Upgraded tickets to Aerosmith at White River a few years back. We were supposed to be in the grass, but it was raining. We showed up WAY early, checked to see if there were any fresh seats avaiable and ended up resting my elbow on the stage peninsula. That was an entertaining show, and we stayed dry. Wife said Steven Tyler had soft hands.

I was lucky enough in college to work security at concerts. Saw lots of shows from directly in front of the stage. Shows ranged from the Go Go's to Monsters of Rock. The stuff that happened between the stage and the barrier wall was always as entertaining as the show itself.
One of the best shows I saw was Tower of Power for the killer horns. Another good show for those who like the blues was Robert Cray. Pearl Jam at Benaroya Hall doing an acoustical show before only a couple thousand people was cool as well.
