Has anyone had any experience installing UHMW on a new drift boat? I am building my own boat, approx. 90% done, last thing on the list is attaching the UHMW to the bottom. I have a few ideas but nothing carved in stone yet. Im all ears if someone has ideas for me!

thanks

A friend of mine has it on his aluminum boat. The builder used (IIRC) 5/16"-18 flat head, stainless, machine screws with Nylock nuts.
He has a row of fasteners on each side of his boat at approx. 6" OC.
That's a lot of holes.

Nothing sticks to it and it walks quite a bit (expands/contracts).

I don't think that I would want it on a wood boat because it would trap water the same way oar tip protectors do.

The Gluvit on my aluminum boat seems to do the trick.

That does seem like a lot of screws, as far as the fasteners do you mean like welded tabs along the side? This boat is all aluminum so what one of my plans are is that I would weld some tabs around the outside like you said and then just 5200 the crap out of the bottom inside.

No, fasteners = screws.
I've heard of using angle (tabs) and keeping the UHMW free-floating, so to speak.
The problem there I would think, is that the bare aluminum tabs would hang up (on rocks). It might be possible to rout the edge of the UHMW and let the tabs in so that they don't project.

Something else to consider is plastic laminate (Formica).
I know of an old Wooldridge DB that used it with good results.
You still might want to coat the bottom of the chines with Gluvit, though.
