My early predictions are that the Big East and Big10 are going to get raped... as usual.

The Oregon, auburn game should be a classic. To much Oregon fire power for Auburn's defense to sustain for 4 quarters.

Boise St. Utah game will show why Kellen Moore will be the Heisman front runner next year.

Stanford, Virginia Tech should be another good game. Stanford wins this one and Luck goes #1 in the NFL draft.

Washington, Nebraska game should be interesting up til the opening kick off. All Big Red in this one.

The BSU game was a stinker. Two bad teams. If Utah had anyone who could catch it might have been decent. I'd like to see Oregon win but I think their slow starts are going to bite them in this one. Hope i'm wrong. Luck has a good O line. Without that he's average.

Rose bowl should be decent, the NC will be great as Oregon will get raped, and shut the obnoxious *uck fans up.

This bowl doesn't make sense to me. Why would a bowl committee combine such a matchup? With 30 different college football bowls, I would have thought that a better matchup could have been arranged?

You could argue that a 6-6 team shouldn't be in a bowl game. But its not the coaches or players fault the system is the way it is. UW had a goal to go to a bowl this year and had to rally back on many occasions to get there. I'm happy for them for realizing their goal. But matching them up against a Nebraska team, who they already played this year and whooped them, seems a little stupid.

Regardless, having follwed UW football since the early 80s, I'll still root for them just like I'd root for the Cougars...IF they were playing in a bowl game.

Dawgs will get waxed and finish with a sub .500 record...AGAIN.

That was the Big 12's way of punishing Nebraska for going to the Big 10. Kind of a FU good bye present.
I think the Dawgs will be much more competitive against the Cornhuskers in the Holiday bowl then earlier in the season.

No one has been able to stop Camnewt. He's a friggin beast....a proverbial freak of nature. (6'-6" and 250#)
Alabama shut him down for a half, then the Tigers came roaring back in the second half to win the Iron Bowl.

Oregon's defense is smaller but faster than the Tigers have faced.
Maybe they can keep him fenced in, show him different looks and blitz packages. The Oregon D will need to tighten the chin straps for this one.
The up side for the Oregon D is that they have been able to practice against a fast offense because the Ducks offense is even faster than Auburn's.
Oregon will need some picks and takeaways.

Special teams, Oregon can take it to house on any touch.

The Oregon offense will be up against a Tiger D line that is very good at stopping an inside running attack. One exception that I saw was in the Kentucky game. Kentucky will sometimes go into a shotgun read set that is Oregon's bread and butter. From that set Kentucky was able to rip off huge chunks of yardage, inside and out.

The Tiger D and Nick Fairley DT are very effective against a pro-style, under center type offense. Oregon with it's shotgun sets should be able to negate some of the Tiger D line effectiveness. If Nick Fairley does get a hold of Darron Thomas it will hurt.
Fairley is an expert at driving QB's into the ground with maximum PSI from his 297 pounds.

The Tiger D has to be concerned with Oregon's pace.....80 plays a game....snapping the ball within 5 seconds of spotting.
If the Oregon O can gas them in the second half it could be very fruitful. In preparation, the Tiger D is working on cardio but I'm not sure if you can fix that in a month's time.

It pains me a bit to say it, but I'm going to root for the Zeros...Pac-10 solidarity and all, and screw the SEC.

That being said...the prevailing attitude around the country is that Auburn will kick O's ass...and while I see Oregon turning some heads and surprising some people, I don't really expect them to win...I think it will be a high scoring game, but I think Auburn's offense will outscore Oregon's offense, and that will be the game right there...

Auburn 47, Oregon 32...book it.

Seems reasonable enough but does the Big 12 have a total say in who goes where? Doens't the bowl committee have some say? I mean, there were plenty of other 6-6 and 7-5 teams going bowling that would have matched up with the Dawgs rather than the 10-3 Huskers. Except for a few bowls that have automatic berths depending on specific placement, isn't the idea to arrange closely matched teams so that the games will be close so the TV ratings will be higher?

I'm sure the Big 12 had a huge influence on which teams play in which bowls this year. Nebraska played in the conference championship game, yet ended up in the conferences 5th bowl spot?
The bowls have the choice, but you can believe the conference made it clear which teams it would like to see in the bowls.
Texas A & M to the Cotton bowl was easy, but you can bet the conference has some influence on the next choices, Oklahoma St to the Alamo and Missouri to the Insight.
As I said, that is Big 12's way of saying good bye to Nebraska and preserving and strengthening the conference bowl alliances for the future.
Due to their contract, the Holiday Bowl was locked in the the 5th Big 12 school.
Funny how that work out, isn't it.........

I just watched the Iron Bowl....Alabama vs. Auburn.
That's the Auburn that will show up for the NCG.
They put up 28 points against a pretty good defense.

Upon further review, Alabama should have won that game.
Two critical fumbles and a pass drop cost them.
#41 Upshaw put some nice heat on Camnewt....one of his sacks was epic.
They're beatable.

Up until tonight they thought that Stanford was just another soft PAC10 team that could be crushed by an average SEC team.

Stanford could most likely be beaten by an average SEC team, but tonight they played an ACC team that couldn't make adjustments, and blew too many opportunities. VT-Stanford wasnt even a fair match up I'm glad Stanford won. If you think there is any comparison between Auburn and VT your insane.

VT is another team that ESPN really wanted to be good (like Ohio State). Their horribly overrated QB couldn't win any important games and they make the ACC look like a high school conference in comparison to the WAC.

Luck's skill and maturity combined with Stanford's running game was just too much for this hyped VT team.

Truth be told, Coogers can be some of the finest people you could ever find.

When my younger son was born, he had a bad aortic valve. When he was 6, he had to go in for open-heart surgery to replace that valve.

Some of the Coogs I sparred with at cougfan.com heard my son was going under the knife, and they sent over flowers, cards, food, a Coog hat, a Coog football etc. I was overwhelmed by their response. One of them knew someone at the University of Texas athletic department, and told them the Drew was going in for surgery. When we got home from Seattle, there was an envelope in the mail with a letter from Mack Brown wishing us the best, and a photo of the Longhorns signed by every player on the team.

To be honest, I've probably got more in common with your average Coog than your average Husky.

If anyone ever drags this post out of the archives to hold against me some day, I'll lie and say some asshole stole my login and posted this without my knowledge.

But in the end, I'm a Husky, and it's my job to clown on Coogers. It helps that they make it so easy.
