Farmers whining about welfare always gets my goat. Many live on land reclaimed by a federal program, get mail that costs waaaaaay more to deliver than it does to city folks, get electricity from the rural electrification program, get free advice and assistance from the Agriculture Department, get crop subsidies or worse get, get paid not to grow things, transport those subsidized crops on federal highways, or on barges made possible by federal dams. The list goes on and on. The fact is the vast majority of tax dollars come from the cities they love to hate. If rural America had to pay for what they get it would bankrupt them.
In 2005, the most recent year I could find data for, Alaska got back $1.84 for every dollar they paid, while New York and California got back only .80 for every dollar paid. The ruraL farm staet of Norrth Dakota got back more than $1.80 for every dollar of fereral tax paid. I

And Dave the urban areas would starve to death without them. Those subsidies were to produce more and cheaper products for the market .... cities. ( lots of mouths to feed ) It is a interlocking relationship that both need to prosper. Both just like to bitch about the others hand outs. Now we could stop all them nasty rural and urban subsidies but want to take a shot at what the average grocery bill would be? Public services? What it would cost in tolls, fees, ect to run all over and fish or whatever. You don't like the subsidies ( rural whining more to the true? ) They don't like being governed by much larger urban population, but all bs aside neither does well without the other. They both need to get over it.

I think the main difference is that I know I need farms to produce food for me to eat...they know they don't need anything that we coastal folk provide for them, including the fact that we are the ones who buy the food they make...they just flat out KNOW it.
Fish on...

"I doubt farmers would be hollerin' for fags and ghetto babies to help them."
Farmers don't have to holler. As so many already have pointed out, money is taken from urban folks and and redistributed disproportionately to rural areas, no hollering required.
Microsoft and Starbucks have, as you put it, "fags and ghetto babies" working for them. So do many businesses in this state. These same, as I put it, "people," pay, through their taxes, for many services and projects that rural farmers use every day.
I sure appreciate farmers doing their jobs well. I also appreciate the guy/gal/other at Microsoft and Starbucks, whose sexual preference and birth situatioin I don't care about, just like I don't care about the farmer's sexual preference or birth situation.
Many "fag and ghetto babies," as you put it just go to work, pay their taxes, and try to get by as best they can. Kind of like farmers.

I am going to chime in , I am a west side farmer ,I pay more property tax then most of you on this board , I pay for every acre of ground, personal property tax on every piece of equipment and every damn tool I own . Not all of us take Government help ,I do pay for crop insurance but have paid out way more then I have recieved . Tell you what lets get rid of the farmers here ,Your food is going to come from some third world country that sprays god knows what on it,and pays their workers a couple of bucks a day, and what about the ground let's pave it over, go to your local mall in a rain storm and watch what goes down that drain . Have any of you drove around the eastside , most of the sideroads are gravel, small government buildings,it is not as high class as King County ,As for water every farmer pays for it it is not free. The farmers that collect the big subsides are big corporations from New York not even farmers So quit bitching about something you have no clue about

Sodfarmer,
I think you mistake a complaint about the attitude of many farmers as an attack on farmers. I, and I suspect most of, us have a great deal of respect for farmers. What I don't like is those farmers who complaining about welfare and highway taxes, with no clue that they too receive many forms of government welfare. When, in fact, most rural areas receive considerably more tax benefits than what they pay for.
Sure we have the cheapest food in history, but that is, at least in part, because our taxes pay for, subsidies, price supports, and fallow land programs.
Sure many farmers that receive corporate welfare are big corporations, but many are like my Idaho farming friend who always cackles when he asks us, "What crop should get paid not grow this year."

How did "bye bye Fish and Wildlife" get to be a farmer bashing party? Kinda like arguing with the bride. Starts off with you tracked mud in and ends up with something I did back in Junior High. I have been sorely disappointed with WDFW for a very long time now. Every year there has been renewed hope followed almost immediately with "WTF?", so this change is a non-event.

It came about because the liberal thumbsuckers hate seeing Gov't consolidated so they project their infantile frustrations on something or someone not at all associated with the subject at hand....like farmers.
Don't try making sense of the loony left...it's easier to just laugh at their mental illness and and wait patiently until Jan. 2013.

The buy locally thing is really catching on, with a lot of resturants making every effort to buy all the local product they can. That's good news for the small farmers.

Maybe the CCA can do something about this.

Maybe the CCA can do something about this. I doubt the CCA can help the liberals appreciate farmers.

P.S. You won't find one of your "liberals" in this thread not appreciating farmers... If bitching and complaining is liberal speak for appreciation then I get your drift. Eastsiders don't pay for jackschit. Ever. All their bridges, roads, and highways, and infrastructure is paid for by Puget Sound Residents or The Federal Government.. The Seattle/Tacoma/Everett economic engine is what drives this entire state, and hearing dumbfvck hayseeds from Adams County complain about having to pay for this that or the other thing for some 'city slicker libruls' in Seattle is a complete crock of schit.
If Eastern WA wants to become it's own state so fuggin bad, I say let 'em, but first we take back all the stuff we bought for them. We dynamite the dams and bridges, tear up the highways, knock down the hospitals, schools, and universities, fill in the irrigation canals, and finally spool up the miles of powerlines and then we'll see how fast their tune on taxes changes while they sit in that arid scabland and try to figure out how to bang two rocks together.
Maybe we should blow the passes too, so they don't load up their pick ups a la Grapes of Wrath and come over here to the westside and fvck up our school levies with their teabaggery. Let's blow those phuggin' bridges...520, I-90, Narrows, Hood Canal. Passes too. I KNOW that not havin' "206'rs" trying to fix all their woories wouldn't hurt their fellings in slightest.

McMahon, if you know anything about Washington, it is only about the Seattle/Tacoma/Everett Metro area. Olympia doesn't care about those Rebublican voting hicks on the East side of the state. ---- I do know about politics in Washington. I've spent 8 years of my life in W. Washington. Unfortunately, every time something like this crops up I'm still surprised. I just hope that people in Spokane aren't paying for environmental damages caused by people building their waterfront mansions on the SJ islands.
If it wasn't for tax dollars pouring in from the federal government and revenue from Puget Sound commerce, Eastern WA would still be using kerosene for light, horses to get around, and wooden planks for bridges, like they were before FDR's New deal formed the BPA and brought the 1880's to 1930's Eastern WA with all those evil, icky tax dollars Eastsiders complain about so much. Irie, if this is Irieonic humor then it went way beyond 98% of the folks here. If it is serious then you have just purchased a place among the biggest D*ck H*ads on this site.
