First place to start cutting would be the quagmires called Iraq and Afghanistan. Then be smarter about foreign aid, then entitlements, and finally earmarks. I'm not going to hold my hand on my butt until all that happens.

Dave, defaulting on obligations and raising the debt ceiling aren't the only two options. We could discuss overspending, and wasteful spending.

Dave, defaulting on obligations and raising the debt ceiling aren't the only two options. We could discuss overspending, and wasteful spending. Please explain how you do that before the end of March. The debt ceiling will be reached within a few months. If it is not raised we must default on our obligations. If you can tell us how to cut enough spending, that fast, I'm sure we would al be interested.

It is a no win situation on the ponzi scheme the treasury is running. Raise the debt ceiling and trash the dollar by printing more money forcing the world to remove the dollar as the reserve currency or default and watch the whole house of cards come tumbling down. Cash in your dollars before you have to use them to start a fire to cook your broth over in your cardboard hovel by the freeway and buy Yuan. Save your fish carks you will need the to make soup.

You are right Grizz, but in this case I really do wonder what percenatge of those polled understand what it would mean to NOT raise the debt ceiling and default.
I really think the answers would have ben diffrent had they understood the issue better.

Here we go with the game of chicken. Everyone knows it must(and will) be done as it can not be avoided at this point. All that is left is to see which party will get the club to beat over the others head. Up until now it seems the Repubs.....but if the bluff is called......they better duck.

Jerry,
Ever taken out a mortgage?
Just curious if you spent money you didn't have, or if you were just trying intentionally to tell half the story.

Some 73 percent support scaling back foreign aid.
I agree. Like my mom says charity begins at home. Some argue that it's not that much of the budget. In fact it is a large part of our spending. I think a lot of our military spending is overseas and is in fact foreign aid. How many civilian workers do we have working in the State Department or other departments involved in off-shore activities? How much money do we spend in Afghanistan and Iraq? Thanks George.
At least in the Gulf War the other countries pitched in to help pay.
Clinton had a balanced budget even when we spent money in Bosnia.
Shoot we paid for the Marshall Plan in Europe and rebuilt Japan after World War II. What do we have to show for it?

forcing the world to remove the dollar as the reserve currency Choad : Name me a time in history when the worlds reserve currency wasn't that of the country with most technologically advanced and or largest military ........ Next................laffin at the tin foil hat wearing dildos............. Where Sloughing Waters anyways........ This must be the thread where the morons attempt to make bait donkey look intelligent. You miss me,........... how sweet Riddle me this Father Time; How many years did it take the dollar to overcome the pound sterling as the world's reserve currency? You were like 52 then so I imagine you would know. Also, how many former world reserve currencies were strictly fiat? Since the 30's the dollar had been used in about 90% of international transactions. Care to take a guess at what that number was in 2009? Not that this is a conversation worth having with you since you have your head firmly lodged in your a$$. But hey, continue to support the status quo and we'll see where that gets us

Google The Bretton Woods conference Brittish Sterling and devaluation for some perspective. Currently were borrow 40% of every dollar we spend. If we cut spending too much we stall the economy if we do not restore US deficits to sustainable levels we risk a sovereign debt crisis in the worlds largest economy. Oil is priced in dollars and we can print as many dollars as we need to buy it. Imagine if the oil producers decide to price oil in some other currency what will happen?

Back in '06, there was a vote to raise the ceiling to 9 trillion. Senator Obama explaining why he was voting against it: The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here.” Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I totally agree with what Pres. Obama said.

Douches: (Choad and Sloughing) Never said I supported the policy, now did I ? Notice how your preconceived notions are causal in your false assumptions regarding my views here. Comprehension by both of you is poor, I'd say too much Fox News............back to g aymfishin' for you minor league types.. sky is falling, run for cover, buy gold, plant a garden, drill a well, buy guns, buy ammo, hoard water................... Just asked a question, and of course, never got an answer............ So are you saying you object to raising the debt ceiling? I'd sooner deep fry my testes in peanut oil than subject myself to any mainstream media news outlet,...... and you won't find me on ----. The answer to your question is never. But, as you usually do, you structured the question so the answer will conveniently fit to your narative. In doing so you left out crucial facts that expose a growing trend. A trend which shows the dollar slowly losing it's place as world reserve currency. Raising the debt ceiling will do nothing to stop this trend and will only disgruntle our creditors. There's pain to be had for our past mistakes, and no amount of kicking the can down the road will make it go away. There will likely be no need for apocolyptic hoarding, but the standard of life here will fall dramatically while it rises in other areas of the world. In fact, it's happening already. I'd submit it's probably wise to be proficient in areas of self sufficiency. Take it for what you will, continue your roll as court jester. But ignoring the writing on the wall doesn't change the fact that the last 98 years of central planning has been a failure.
