With the explosion of posts about OP nates seemingly being plucked at will, it was actually refreshing to see Stam post one or two for the box. Hey Stam I noticed that critter was slit at the wrist.... when did you switch up your fish-bleeding technique? Been doing the head down in the bucket thing ever since you got me going on it at Neah a couple seasons back. Missed an opportunity to post some brat pics earlier in the season, but I finally got the last of my 2010 pics all cropped and re-sized this weekend. This kinda pic is typically NOT my style, but hey.... ALL hatchery fish MUST die!

Some nice fish there and some really nice pics. Have never seen the tail bleed before, is it effective? Especially like the black and white.
As for the leech, I had my fill of them a few years back when I got a hand full out of the gills of one in the Hump.

For all the hootchie spinner tossin' I do in the fall for coho, those were the first two winter runs I've caught on them...all species of salmon, yes...summer runs, yes...first two winter runs. That little one that Tony caught fought like a champ...that big one that I caught fought like a turd...smoked up good, though Preferred eating all the coho we caught that day! Fish on... Todd

Here is the Lowe-down on the fish bleeding technique......seems like a good way to keep your driftboat from getting too bloody.....which would be next to impossible to pull off with these two in the boat http://blog.theoutdoorline.com/post/2010/11/11/Fall-Salmon-Finale-in-Forks.aspx

OK, so I read the blog.... but I'm left a bit confused.
Is the wrist-slitting maneuver just a mechanism to create the "handle" to suspend the fish head down while it bleeds from the standard gill ripping/slitting technique.... or is the wrist slit supposed to be the primary site of blood-letting?

Maybe its like shotgunning a beer. Poke a hole in the bottom and top to let it drain faster.

OK I get it.
A straw full of water with only the bottom end open won't drain very well.... until you take your finger off the top end. Makes perfect sense.
This method won't have to rely on a still-beating heart to rid the carcass of blood.... it simply runs out in passive fashion thanks to gravity.
Amerman has a video on the web about how to properly bleed a fish. In it, he talks about 'squirt-bleedin'... where the heart creates pulses of blood that 'squirt' with each pump.
This top/bottom slit method sounds like the blood literally falls out in one raging gush and doesn't stop till it's virtually all gone. Can't wait to give it a try.
Considering he's from Enumclaw, that Stam's a pretty smart dude. If you hang around him long enough, somethin' good is eventually gonna rub off.

Doc, I always thought of how cool it would be to fish with you some time but I have to say I might be a bit nervous now!

Maybe its like shotgunning a beer. Poke a hole in the bottom and top to let it drain faster. OK, over the years PP has been the source of many learning opportunities. While I've drunk my fair share of 'em over the past decade or two, I've never heard of shotgunning a beer. Like all the other times I've seen something on this board I didn't understand, I just Googled it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXp_z0FjL1oJust one question.... how do you make that work with an Alaskan Amber? Or am I just stuck with Ripley's Busch tall boys to enjoy the full "shotgun" experience? Maybe they invented the technique to get that stuff past your tongue as quickly as possible.

no No NO This is a bad BAD idea. Never allow this activity on your boat or at Casa Doc. Bad things happen when I drink competitively and this leads to that. Not a good thing when multiple aid cars are going between your address and Grays Harbor County Hospital. Just say NO

Doc, with about 25 cents worth of materials and two minutes of work, I can show you how to shotgun a bottle of beer so fast it'll make the guy in the video stand up and take notice...he took at least three seconds to drink that beer, you can kill off an Alaskan Amber in half a second...easy. Interested? Fish on... Todd
