What a joke. Kind of reminds me of the statement, "respect your elders.."

I beleive in the biblical phrase of "not being a respectors of persons". That is do not give respect to one person over another. If you do you will make many mistakes. That does not mean I don't disrespect some people, but rather that I do not base my respect or disrespect of someon on just one factor or what is visibly perceivable.


I teach my kids to give respect to everyone intitally, but not to respect anyone soley based on anything other than their actions. If an older person is an idiot, then that's what they are. If an "educated person is an idiot, then thats what they are. The guy digging ditches or working at McDonalds probably is working a lot harder for a lot less than most and still gets up every day and does it.... as opposed to a lot of the population that has learned to sponge off of everyone.

I have known many a millionaires. I have never seen any of the ones I have known ever in a work place wearing anything other than levi's 80% of the time and dockers when they are trying to dress up.

BWP. You mistake having an education to being wise. There is a huge gap between the two. I took classes from educated professors that only required me to think like they did. A true joke. As long as I understood being poor or black equalled an excuse for all of lifes problems, I got an A. Could have taken the final exam without taking the class. Education is often just a liberal phrase for indocrination.

I know one guy from McDonalds (where I grab a cup of oakmeal and OJ in the morning) who works three jobs and is putting together a program for the homeless. Where he'll end up in life, I have no idea.....but he certainly has my respect.

I ran into a few instances as a kid very similar... One that sticks out was when I was 12 picking Blueberries for the summer with my cousin. We'd get up at 4:30am to be on the berry bus and would spend our 9 hours a day picking...

On that berry bus there were many older than us, thinking back we were probably the youngest working there.

As a berry picker, they give you a row and the Berry boss inspected the bushes as you picked along. If you left ripe berries behind, they'd pull you back to finish that bush... Well being 12, we didn't have the fastest hands in the world. Considering the job in discussion, we certainly were the minority. There was a group of guys that were 18-24 that would constantly pick ahead and then "ream" our bushes. Meaning, they'd pick all the bushels of berries that were easy to get to off of our bushes...

After a few weeks of being "picked on" my cousin and I decided to stand up for ourselves and tattled on them. That did us no good, matter of fact that made that berry bus ride in the mornings the worst. They'd constantly pick at us and bully us around....

Finally about half way through the season, my cousin and I had had enough. We decided to stand our ground. As we sat on the bus that morning and those guys started picking on us, we lost it... I remember going over the seat behind me and kicking the biggest guy in the head and when he fell to the center aisle I remember punching then kicking him in the face and that's when the berry bus came to a screaching hault...

Long story short, you guessed it. We got fired and weren't allowed on the berry bus again and weren't allowed to go back to work there... Looking back, that sure sucked losing that $3.00 an hour job... But I'll gaurantee the gratitude from beating the bejesus out of those dudes bloodying their faces, was a positive influence in life....

Stand your ground. That simple...

There's a reason why the same candidates out there who call educated people "elitists" who ought to be shunned are the same people who think abstinence only education works, that Obama is a Muslim from Kenya, and that the Founding Fathers worked tirelessly to eradicate slavery.

Educated people don't vote for those retards...but, unfortunately, there are a lot of uneducated folks in this country, and those they vote for love it that there are a bunch of uneducated morons in this country...they'd never win a seat on the local PTA board without 'em.

What's funny is alot of people who think that way will send money to starving kids in other countries. They think American poor black kids were born that way, but kids in third world countries are just in a bad situation.

Yeah, I'm worried about them procreating...but the attacks on funding Planned Parenthood aren't done out of hand...dumbasses having kids are what fuels a particular voting base...one that votes for dumbasses.

Racist, How does "respect every one" become racist.

I understand situation, but I do not confuse it with color. Being poor and from a broken family is the most common cause of poverty. That is not to say that racism and other factors do not contribute, Of course they do. I have no doubt that in many situations that was a root cause for the parents. But, to say to a kid, you are poor because you are black, is a diservice. To say, you are in a cruddy situation, life is unfair, what do you need to succeed is what should be said. To look at a poor white kid and say, well , you are white, so you don't need help is laying the roots to turn someone into a racist.

All, people, and I mean all, should be given the tools and help to succeed. My own child has a disability. I have no idea if colllege will be a possibliity for him. I pray daliy that it will, but also realize that each day he struggles adn fights an almost epic battle to succeed. When someone tells me that to succeed you need a college degree, yeah, I get pissed off. A young man I knew had alcohol fetal syndrom. At seventeen he could not read. I was a little older, and since he had basically no parents we talked about his plans one day. He told me had entered a apprentice program at school for autobody work, but felt he had to quit when they gave him a final written exam. He had quit and was working at a shop under an apprentice program there. Last I heard was when he was about 20. He was engaged, making a good living, and way more established than any of his freinds. Was he suceeding? I have more respect for him than most people, I will tell you that much


Lastly, how did I say I did not respect education. I said I do not respect people based soley on education. Many great people never are given the opportunity to get an education. I never assume that the lack of a degree assumes stupidity, nor do I assume a degree necessarily means intelligence. I think to do so is elistist.

A young man in my sunday school class was in a very poor situation. He would come to class each sunday, occassionally bringing his freinds in full gang colors along. An older guy I know went to his family and convinced them to move. Helped them get an apartment in another city, worked with him. One day I was working with at the church when he came in very distraught. He worked with the corner and had discovered the young man laying dead on the table with a gun shot. He was a very hard man, and for the only time I knew him I saw him struggling not to breakdown. His words were, I thought he made it, I thought we got him out. no blame, no hatred, only compassion and sorrow.

Hope, love, compassion, belief, charity, and understanding. I hope and try each day to live with them.

I have no doubt that most of you try to do the same. Hopefully someday we will all get there.

There's no doubt the public education system sucks in most of America. The teachers are underpaid and overworked, and any kids that have an above-average amount of energy are doped up to control them.

Here's the real deal........We are ALL teachers......What are WE, collectively, teaching?

Now the toughy.........Who still considers themselves a student?

For me, I like to try to keep a fairly open mind......I never know where the truth will come from......and the truth is still just that......the truth. Whether I enjoy where it comes from, has nothing to do with it.

My wife and youngest daughter had an interesting recent moment. This daughter is a teacher by profession. She called her Mom and expressed her concerns about her difficulties in controlling this year's uncommonly unruly kids. Mom said, "Can I come and talk to your class for about an hour?"

I wasn't there, but the story I got was that my wife, who doubles as an office supervisor...among other things.....talked with the class and demonstrated to them how they would be needing to learn this year's lessons in order to know the answers to future questions. She gave them a few examples. Interesting technique, I thought. She was able to inspire the kids and they were asking the question, "What's the answer?....What's the answer?" Long story short, daughter is having fun with the same class that she was just having such a tough time with.

Just thought I'd share that little, hopefully successful, story.
