It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

It's like I'm spending $5,000 a month but only bringing home $4,000 and my wife and I are fighting over which day we aren't going to buy a latte.

BS Hank. Obama created a bi-partisan commission to reduce the debt because of the fiscal crisis. The GOP ignored the recommendations, allowing tax cuts and playing politics. This ones on the GOP.

FP, I didn't buy an OR license yet, and the LCR is still too high for me to feel like I know what I'm doing trying to fish it when it's like that. Plus, viz is half what it was last week. Not sure what I'm gonna' do if we go on furlough, maybe go down and sign up for unemployment? I don't have much experience at being unemployed.

As for Congressional blame, there's more than enough to go around for all the Rs and the Ds. At the core, they're not doing the job they were elected to do, and I'm left thinking that many of them are too f'n stupid to even know that. A whole lot more political game-playing going on than actual gubmint work.

Often thought that this country has been pretty lucky. Where would be if the current doofi in "leadership positions" had been there in 1775-1789, 1860-65, WWI, WWII.

Is it that we now have no real leaders or that crisis brings out good leaders?

Yup. Back-slappin', hornswogglin' scofflaws, the lot of 'em. Remember, folks, they're just like us (if a lot wealthier). They work to make money, which means making sure the ones who pay them are making money. If I have any reason to be optimistic about our future, it's that the illusion that any of them care about the greater good is slowly but surely being exposed for the lie it is.

"Ye shall learn the truth, and the truth shall set you free" seems more apropos than ever these days.

So I skipped work this morning to celebrate this gov't shutdown. I was supposed to respond to some Fed comments to a design I did. I figured with the shut-down they wouldn't be around to send the review.

I was wrong about that and had to have a 30 min teleconference aboard my pontoon boat. Did anyone get shut down?

Salmo g., starting to look like you'll be working a full day tomorrow...and every other work day, at least until the end of the fiscal year.

Now that the shutdown has been avoided, does that mean we can get back to the important work of being a birther, decrying NPR and Planned Parenthood, and trying to decertify public employee unions?

We can leave the little details like the econonmy, jobs, and the budget for next September, right?

Fish on...

SD,

Not sure. Four years maybe. You trying to get rid of me? Why do you hate this country?

Todd,

Of course. It's long been known Congress has a strict aversion to working on the real problems of the nation. Kicking the can down the road is the only job they're any good at.

Kicking the can down the road is the precursor to the actual job of Congress...

Everyone kicks the can down the road, but the real work of Congress is seeing which side of the aisle can be blamed for it the most when election time comes around.

No one seems to want to actually do anything...seems the best way to get elected/stay elected is to actively sabotage anyone actually doing anything, and then try and aportion blame for nothing getting done...preferably to your opponent personally, and failing that, his/her party and try to get 'em with guilt by association.

Actually doing something is fraught with risk...one, as noted above, no one on either side of the aisle wants to actually do anything, so you're going to get opposition from all sides...two, no matter what you do, if actually do get something done proactively, it will be so amended and fukked up by the time it passes that it won't work, and you'll be blamed for it, even though you're not the one who amended or fukked it up.

Much easier to do nothing, and then try and blame the other side for nothing getting done.

Fish on...

Todd
