Hey Easy - STAY AWAY! It's probably much more fun to get up at dumb dark thirty and troll in Elliot Bay for awhile and then spend the rest of the day cleaning the salt off the boat/gear, than it is to leisurely get out to the big lake (I like to hit it at the crack of 10-11 a.m. after the launches clear out), troll for awhile with no bait, and catch those icky tasting Sockeye! These fish are EXTREMELY difficult to catch and NO fun at all. STAY AWAY!

I am going to pull double duty. Elliott Bay in the wee hours of the morning then put the boat back on the trailer and hop over to the big lake for a little sockeye action. All before 0900. :p

Parking could be more of a problem this year than in past years. Apparently, there is a wooden boat show going on at Sayres this weekend and the circus is taking up a good portion of parking at Coulon.

Atlantic City here I come. Parking there can mean a several mile hike if the high school is closed. mad

I am a relative newbie to trolling for salmon, and I don't know how to let out the right amount of line to get to the desired depth when trolling really slowly without using a downrigger. Basically how do you tell when your hook is aty the right depth that you have marked fish at?
Any help appreciated.
Thomas

hey tbuet, type salmon university into your search engine, they just released an article about lake washington sockey fishing. seems like that site gives the clearest overall info on salmon fishing in the northwest. good luck

here is a formula that is really quite simple,if the line is at a 15 degree angle multiply the length of the line by 2, if 30 degree multiply by 5, 45 degee multiply by 7, and 60 degree multiply by 8, example 100ft line at 45degree angle to water your fishing at 70 ft move the descmial over one space 30 degree with 100 ft line 100 x 5 =500 (50.0) ft deep knowing how much line you have out is the hard part, doug

Gotta get my facts straight.

The parking problem will be at Coulon. The wooden boat show and circus will be at Coulon not Sayres as I had previously said.

Sayres will be getting ready for the hydros. rolleyes

Man.....

High tide on Elliott,
or lake Washington....
both would be cool, but
the real question is whether
or not I can deal with all of the
yahoo fair whether fishermen.
(note, fishermen, not anglers!)
It's great workin' 4-10's!

3000 + boats out on the lake opening day let us all pray that the people who don't visit this message board have the common sense to keep a calm level head out there, watch where they are going and what their line is doing.

Good luck to everyone this weekend, hope to see a few of you out there. I will be in drk green and aluminum smokercraft will be out early fri morning to get a jump on the crowd.
I will have a FSR radio with me channel 2 or 8
if anyone wants to BS, K9jj will be there.
