Understanding Red State voters...

I've always had a hard time understanding the right wing voters in most of the red states...no one, and I mean NO ONE can deny that they constantly and consistently vote in direct opposition to their own personal and economic well being. Clearly part of the issue is that they totally ignore most any "scientific" or "logical" approach to politics or their own voting habits, and rely virtually entirely upon emotional voting...which means social/religious engineering issues like abortion, gay rights, immigration, or any other minority issue...that's why all that worthless non-issue stuff is contantly being bandied about by right wing politicos, to keep their voting base angry and motivated. That being said...I think I've finally discovered what might be the overarching concern...I'd love to see study of the prevalence of this condition as compared to voting habits... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect "The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled people make poor decisions and reach erroneous conclusions, but their incompetence denies them the metacognitive ability to appreciate their mistakes." I now fully expect for some folks to react very vehemently to my proposition here...but as usual, they will go farther in affirming my position than disputing it when they do so. Have at it Fish on... Todd

The part that must have the Right Wing Elite laughing all the way to the country club or bank is that they ignite their voters with meaningless issues (abortion, religion, minority relations, gay marriage), and then utterly fail to ever do anything to actually change those issues in any meaningful way.
What happens when they get elected over and over again on these issues, and then ignore them almost wholeheartedly once elected? Nothing, at least not to them. Besides actually getting about half the population of the US to vote utterly against their own self-interest time and time again on these issues, and then never delivering on these issues, they've somehow tied their total failure to deliver on the "liberal elite"...
Can you imagine what it would be like if they actually got abortion banned, got prayer in schools, national Christian religion, and end immigration of brown people? The Republican Party would wither and die, because they'd lose their voting base.
They need a few things to continue to be successful...an ignorant and angry voting base, meaningless issues that play on the ignorance and anger of their voting base, no actual movement on those issues, and the existence of a "liberal elite" to blame their total failure on...
...and that's what they've got, in spades.
Why do they hate America so much?
Fish on...
Todd

Who gives a sh!t what they understand? Red states are leaches on the country, the majority of them sucking on the federal t!t that they always cry like bitches about.
Show me the list of red states that put more into the federal coffers than they take out. It's a short list.
If you're so f'n in love with the red states, why don't you move to one, dumbass?

Hope this helps.

Wipe the snot bubble off your lip, Dan. Todd posted, "...an ignorant and angry voting base..." in reference to red states, but it appears rather clearly that he's got his colors mixed up.

Click through these states and tell me how many are red states and how many are blue states.... That's really cute, but I believe this is what they were really getting at.

First thing to consider, if the poor are stupid for voting morality over interest, then shouldn't the same be true for all these smart rich democrats voting against their interest?
The truth may be hard to swallow, but every democratic push for voters I have ever seen start by heading to the poorest neighborhood and trying to get them to vote. Perhaps the truth of why the red states vote the way they do is that they are lacking the elite welfare suckers, the huge numbers of government workers that suck of the teat but are smart enough to vote. The few hard workers there are sick of the rest of the welfare crowd and vote republican.
Above it all, I love how Todd can not ever understand how someone can care more about their core beliefs than their pocket book. Do you pimp out your girl friend Todd?

Learned fast in Nam, you want your officers and NCO's from the South but any place but CA & NY. Generalization to be sure but I would not be here today if not for a officer named Culpepper from Charleston and the toughest guy I ever met Merritt, from Lake Charles Louisiana, who happened to be black. As a rule the folks from the South and Mid West have a very rigid value system. Good points and bad points in it I guess but I have no problem with it.
Oh yes almost forgot, I went down and they refused to leave me behind. Got no idea how they pulled it off but it was two hours of hell to the LZ and they never waivered. I can do values.

Above it all, I love how Todd can not ever understand how someone can care more about their core beliefs than their pocket book. Do you pimp out your girl friend Todd? I think you've completely missed the point of my post. I don't necessarily have a problem with people voting for the core beliefs...but the people they're voting for aren't serving their core beliefs at all, and in fact, ignore them and their core beliefs in favor of their corporate masters, right up until election day. Right around election day, of course, they trot out the "core beliefs" again, rile up the ignorants, and blame it on someone other than themselves (when they're the ones who promised to do something about it and failed to do anything about it at all, again)... Not only the red state ignorant voters voting against the financial interests of themselves, their state, and their country in their drive to vote for or against made up issues instead, but even their made up issues go absolutely nowhere, every...why? Because they are made up issues that no one in Washington will ever do anything about, they're not even a blip on the radar when lawmaking is happening. If someone actually were to do something for those "core beliefs" beyond do nothing and blame liberal elitists for their utter failure (again), then your argument would hold water...but they don't, so it doesn't. The important part of my point here is that the ignorant voters in the red states get nothing in return for their vote...nothing except the satisfaction that they are voting against the liberal elites (who aren't even the ones who are failing them, it's the very people they elect who are the failures). Fish on... Todd

No I don't. But if I did, I'd be glad to put it on before I clowned you about being the stupid old donkey that you are. I know several servicemen from around these parts that would love to give Rivrguy a lesson in toughness and bravery, too. His post was just sad. Almost as sad as needing to resort to hat clowning.

I don't live in Shelton, dumbass, and kids don't get to choose where they grow up. I'd way rather grow up in Shelton than Bellevue, though, so you should probably go set yourself on fire.

If Sol Duc or Hank ever fished, they might have a clue about why wearing a warm hat is a good idea, but since they don't..................... I got up at 5:30 this morning and caught some beautiful Large Mouth Bass at a private lake about 10 minutes from here. Nearly every cast, averaged about a 1.5 pounds and had one that went about 16 inches. Was sporting my AZ touk.

I have no beef with Shelton, it's just not for me today. I was glad to grow up there, though........hunting and fishing minutes from home. Some of the finest people I've ever met live in Shelton and are proud to call it home.
There is no perfect town, but surely people from Bellevue have no room to clown on Shelton.

I can't imagine why anyone would willing LIVE in a place like Bellevue. The air is barely breathable in the summer.
Are you on crack? Guess you've never been to Cougar Mtn, adjacent to Issaquah. You need to get out more. lol

Sure.
There are no brave soldiers from Cali or New York that would hand you your sad ass for saying that, either.
I'm sure all 37 million people in California are flakes, just like you said.
Dumbass.

Friday afternoon, my girl was here while I was laughing my ass off and putting the original post up... "What are you doing?" "Taking a bucket of cold water and throwing it at two cats that are warily stalking each other...I'll revisit in a couple of days to see how it went." Thanks for not disappointing, guys Fish on...
