Hey Old Man (that sounds good),
Is middle of October to late to use gwass hoppers?
I did well with them the end of Sept. last year.

I don't know as I seem to be having a problem catching any fish right now. It's either they are not in yet or I'm holding my mouth wrong.

I really don't use hoppers,I like to use stimulators. But they're not working for me at the moment.

I've been going to the Main Stilly a lot,but I've been thinking that maybe I ought to change and try the Sky. My luck can't stay bad for ever.

Regarding the question on how late it's productive to use hoppers....I have found that the
hoppers largely disappear after first frost....but the trout don't forget them and are willing to take a hopper pattern all fall, most places where they commonly hit the water.

I fished Blue Lake a few years back during the first week of October. During the early evening I saw the largest mayfly hatch I have ever seen.
If that isn't happening, or any other hatch going on, try a water boatman. They are in the water year around and usually go no deeper that 15 feet. The water is cooling down now and you will probably find fish cruising the shoreline looking for them. This last weekend I was out at Amber and was using a boatman in 3' of water and several hit it the moment it landed on the surface, Wham! eek
Good luck and let us know how you did. smile
