I think the real issue is passing laws helping illegals. The illegals already enjoy in-state tuition rates.
What if a law were passed to giving an illegal preference over your son or daughter at a State school because it is the 'right thing to do?'
There are legal ways to enter this country and become residents and eventually citizens. It is a slap in the face of every single legal resident of this country to allow acceptance of illegals because it is the PC thing to do.
I don't care if an illegal comes from China, India, Norway, or any of the various Latin American countries. if you are not here legally than it should be made so difficult for you to live here, that you return to your country of origin.

Well in a way it is if you look at this quote from the story: State law already allows illegal immigrants who qualify for admission to a four-year state university to pay in-state tuition rather than the more expensive out-of-state tuition rate. But four-year institutions are still beyond reach for many undocumented students without financial aid. So they are so dumb they get outcompeted by illegal immigrants? The state isn't your problem, it is the private party choosing to give their money away to people you don't like. Maybe you should start a private scholarship fund and run it how you like?

My issue most certainly IS with the State because it cleared the way for this kind of funding to take place. Obviously the private groups needed the assistance of the state government to unlock doors in order to allow this kind of scholarship funding.
I wonder if any of those private companies are charitable corporations that receive grants from the government.

Why?
When so many have moved here and have begun to form this into Northern California?
I'm sure it is only a matter of time before someone from San Francisco I mean Seattle proposes a similar measure here.

Which is why those regions want to secede from the rest of the state and form their own state.
I think they could come up with better names than Northern California and Southern California though....that's been done before with North & South Carolina and North & South Dakota.
How about Sequoia or Crescent for a state name for the red part? The way the proposal is drawn it almost looks like a crescent.

AP, no problem with private scholarships to non-resident students. The over-riding issue is that it is specifically addressed to illegal residents, i.e., the people who have no right to be in the U.S. That is, they shouldn't be going to school, working at a job, or even visiting as tourists without valid passports or visas. Civilization is based on the concept of rule of law. We ought to have good laws that serve the purpose of civilization and then enforce them.
BTW, I'm not on the bandwagon to deport all illegal aliens, although conceptually and legally it's the right thing to do. But with 12 -24 million of them it's far and away impractical. So we need a mechanism that facilitates becoming a legally documented alien, for the purpose of school, work, or visitation.

Kaiser you must have missed this statement in the article:
"A separate bill under consideration in the legislature would allow illegal immigrants to seek publicly funded scholarships as well."
So while right now private scholarships are ok, public money will most likely be on the table pretty soon. No, my reading comprehension is actually fairly strong. We weren't talking about that. We were talking about the law that got passed. You must have missed that in this thread.

Civilization is based on the concept of rule of law. We ought to have good laws that serve the purpose of civilization and then enforce them. Sg Yeah, and we out to have 20 pound steelhead dripping out of every ditch. Have you not seen who actually has the power in this country? Do you think they support the "concept of rule of law"? This answer is "probably" unless you are referring to them specically in which case the real answer is "no". Along with that list of other things illegals shouldn't be able to do (which I'm not in total disagreement with), can we also add "Join the U.S. military."? Now, THAT is crazy.

As much as it sounds hypocritical of me to say, I'm going to say it.
An illegal willing to forfeit his or her life in defense of this country carries more water with me rather than another that is taking from others...at least the military person is willing to give the ultimate sacrifice.

So do tell what is so fukking special about your little Valhalla that a northern Californian is so prone to destroy? When you lump all folks into a classification you make a complete fool of yourself. Look up the racial slur "Nigger".

Maybe that should be part of the amnesty process for illegals already in this country.
Serve in this countries Military, or serve in VA hospitals for a four year term.
If they end up in the VA maybe they will see how much the freedoms and liberty they enjoy cost....then again I'd like most people in this country to do the VA tour of duty.

I went to California once, didn't care for it. I always get a kick out of folks that bash California and use their one trip to defend their statement. California's land mass is 163,695.57 square miles, you must have done a helluva lot of looking around to see as much as you did on that trip there Prince. Solid.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Cali may be messed up in some ways, but what state isn't?

I have been wondering if its time to try to use immigration to shore up our country. A great solution to the illegal immigration problem would be to issue 3 year work visas to all illegals who can show gainful employment. The visas would expire at the end of the three year period unless they bought a new home. Provisions would require normal vesting, a purchase price of at least 35% to 50 % of median value, and that the buyer finance at least 80%. Limit it to the first million or so, and we should be able to get our housing market back on track in less than a year. This could easily stimulate the entire economy over a short year period. It would also limit citizenship to those with good, documented income, hopefully limiting concerns of hoards of welfare recipients getting citizenship. We already offer green cards to foreignor investors willing to invest a million dollars in the US, so this is just a form of extension for those already here.

Sheep...please stay there....thanks! No need to even ask. You think I'd trade up here for that car-infested shlthole? Besides, before I actually took the effort to come down there, I'd just outsource the task the gay Islamic Mexicans that rent my squatted house. Krijack, you got my vote.
