Hey anyone know anything about that derby?

Also, what flies would work well here? Or should I even take the rod out on Saturday... Probably will be packed huh?

Awwh come on Curtis, the biggest flotilla/bankie party that annually goes on. Guess this year they will let people supposedly bring tents to sleep in the park overnite for the opener. If you want to fly fish, better think about going the weekend after so ya won't get all tangled up with a pop gear or two. Trollers have been gettin the larger of the fishes in the past and keep that in mind if you go in on the derby. Bring your clubs too if it gets too crowded for you, might be more room at the golf course. beer beer

Most of the 'derbies' I've seen on the lakes around here are for kids. They put down a net pen, fill it with stocked trout, let the kids fish in it all morning, then let the remainding trout out in the afternoon.

Wilderness aint no bigger than a net pen. I wouldnt even attempt a fly pole on the opener. My dad took me their as a kid over 30 years ago. Their allways is way to many people. Best part was the all you could eat pancake breakfast they used to serve at the hall next to cedar river.

Hey Curtis, ya gotta go just for the heck of it and maybe get some breakfast there. Since you live close enough it ain't gonna be a couple hour drive and being opening day, its not any better at other lakes with openers. If anything, might as well hit deep lake on the way back home just for kicks. fishy fishy

thanks guys. I think I'll be taking the 12 ft. aluminum out and troll some Uncle Wes. Maybe I'll get a pole rigged up for my bro with a woolly bugger... would be nice to see if they'll take what I tie laugh

By the way, bring your normal assortment of Woolley Buggers and some sinking line...there are some nice deep holes to the east of the Wilderness center. I caught a nice one in the same spot last year with a larger black bugger. Really a miracle that I caught anything since there were boats everywhere and I could barely weave through all the traffic as I kicked my tube...yeah, make sure and bring a club or bat of some sort - it gets nasty out there.
