Leaving this Saturday for a week in Neah Bay. I see eating fish for 7 days straight... urp.. is it possible to get tired of eating fish?

Possibly after this trip I will have an alter-ego of the zen rockfisher.

Easy, you make up your mind yet on going?

Mrs leecher is going along too and will be operating the camera for some photos. Mrs leecher has stated already that there will be no 7 straight days of fish dinners. Maybe she knows something I don't.

Dog leecher will get her first fishing trip in the boat. Sure hope there's no problem coaxing her to hop in the boat.

We'll be using half ounce jigs with rubber worms on spinning rods. Do hae some 1 and 2 ounce jigheads for when we want to go to deeper water... but think the bulk of our fishing will be in 30 feet and shallower water. Anyone else here try the light rod methods for bottom fish?

Yup-- but take one of your thousand fly rods, Zen. I would use a 7 or 8 weight with a super-fast sinking line. Tie some rabbit flies in white, black and combos OR you can use older steelhead flies. Flashflies could be good as well, but rockfish are rough on flies. I would also include a floating line and some poppers/gurglers just in case. If the rockfish are on crab spawn or whatever it is that they eat off the surface, you can take them on topwaters. It's a hoot. You might also think about taking a heavy rod or two as there are days when you've gotta go deep to catch fish. AND don't forget a ruler or measuring stick for the lings you'll catch.

Have a blast-- you're heading for one of my favorite fisheries.

Keith,

I'm hoping this time I won't need to be measuring the ling cod.... just a plan I have.

Jim, if you're wondering what this post has to do with lakes well... I'll be using my patented zen leecher leech retrieve with these half ounce jigs. I'll swim them through the water and "think" them into the fish's mouths.

Just visualize... and it will happen.

Mike...Mike... Mike,

Allow me this one trip as I seem to remember reading reports (while I was at work)of all your Wednesday fishing trips when you had the day off. AND... as I remember it you caught fish on all your Wednesday trips.

On a semi-good point I read this morning where the state opened Halibut up for two more days at Neah Bay. This Friday and Saturday. Guess I'll have to hurry a little as I don't think I'll get there until noon on Saturday.

Mrs Leecher will be the photographer of this trip and we hope to get some shots of big lings in the boat.

Zen,
Jealose doesn't mean I grudge your going - just wish I could join you.
My Wednesdays have been sucked up with kid's ortho appointments, Union negotiations (glad those are done) and other various Honey-Do's. But I see a light at the end of the tunnel and better fishing opportunities ahead. smile

Thought I'd try something different for the trip this year. Years ago I fished with a guy that always brought something new for each trip.

This year I'll use some Texas rigged worms on the bottom fish.

I'm used to getting snagged up lots bouncing the bottom for fish... wondered if Texas rigged worms would reduce that. Well.. threw in the hooks and weights this morning.

Report will follow in a week.

Next... the lead pipe for the big toothy fish.

Dang, I never talk this way about fly fishing...

ZL...
I am curious how you did??
I have used texas rigged worms on the Columbia north jetty and had really good luck... have even rigged large grubs that way with a salmon hook setup, Kaelins worms and grubs seemed to work really well for me with this setup behind a 1/2 oz or larger banana sinker...
